"We are probably the most unappreciative bunch who walks on the face of this earth."
No it's not just that. It's more important for likes of CM to bash anyone non-muslim to spew out the venom than to appreciate how many LIVES their money might have saved by now. He should go and ask the mother of that 5 days old baby who is breathing again...or that 10 years old boy whose father was saved... and they were saved because the money arrived regardless of who gave it and how much they gave it...but those are probably minor incidents to him
And one thing only it is that Pakistan can only count on Pakistanis and the Muslim world for support in its time of need.
The 2005 Earthquake set the standard. The 2010 Floods only reinforce it.
How many would share this assessment in light of what has transpired over the past month?
No, first of all the hel is coming from everywhere, 2005 vs 2010 was a diff time in terms of global economic situation for nations and for individuals.
another takeaway from this is the need for better public relations, and how you are seen, and how your leadership is seen by the masses in other countries has an impact. This forces the point that Pakistan needs a massive image makeover. we simply can not afford to have illprepared, poor speakers in front of the camera at every chance, we need to have more presentable, well spoken people not just in time of tragedy but on an ongoing basis.
oh lastly..having crooks as leaders screws us over in general.
^Those stats are old, Saudi aid has reached 170 million dollars now. The US aid has also increased, i dont know who is at the top now. But one should not sway in one direction or the other. US, Saudi and EU all have greatly helped. Perhaps there is more positive response from ordinary people in muslim countries and better government response in western world.
We should not see it as a muslim, non-muslim issue. Good people exist in both groups.
Rather i think this time around, there is more help from western world, in 2005 earthquake 2/3rd came from muslim world. I think the portion of muslim world of total aid is much less. And as X2 pointed out, this may be due to economic recession.
The only prominent donors from the “Muslim world” are Saudi Arabia and Turkey. Which is why it is slightly amusing that while Arab rulers happily spend billions engaging in their ego-boosting exercises of building the (gaudiest) ‘tallest’ this, the ‘biggest’ that, they have been so reluctant to help Pakistan’s flood-stricken people.
Consider, for example, the absence of any significant monetary contribution from the U.A.E, where not a few Pakistanis live and which has no dearth of wealth. One would think that if you can shell out $5.5 million for, hold your breath, six horses, you will be willing to at least give a little more to help starving, homeless human beings of a fellow Muslim nation, no less!
Oh, so you want to hide the fact that China gave $3 million? Actually they started with less than 2 mill.
In fact when I asked my Chinese friends how come when China is sitting on 2.8 trillion dollars, they give their best friend in trouble only 3 miil, they said our money is for our people.
You are entitled to close your eyes and stick your head in the sand.
