If there were no religions....

…the world would have been a much more peaceful place to live. Though most people would prefer to blame wine and women for quarrels that result in war, i would say, religion beats it all.

History is full of wars and genocides, all committed over religious differences. Examples are numerous, and no one seems to have learnt a thing from history! Every religion has branched into a number of sects and sub-sects, the followers of which don’t hesitate to kill each other over their subtly varied beliefs. Religions that started with non-violence as their main pillar have strayed drastically from their initial path.

Violence , ignorance and religion go hand in hand. Religious rigidity has been a major obstacle for scientists. How many were persecuted in the middle ages in europe for making discoveries that went against the church’s teachings? How many people in today’s world refuse to believe in the theory of evolution, because it goes against what is mentioned in the Bible or Qur’an!

What do you think?

Mr Queer,

How would you explain the inequities perpetrated by countries that are following avowedly atheiestic doctrines such as communist russia, china and cuba. You think they present the best example of peace and prosperity to the world.

And what about the brutal policy of subjugation by the so-called secular India against Kashmiris. If religions are to be blamed for the chaotic state-of-affairs in this world then it is only fair that all religions are mentioned for their part in it.

Hindus tend to portray themselves as peaceloving then how come their is an extremist hindu party at the helm of affairs in a secular country. Whatever Muslim conquerors did centuries ago, today's muslims are nothing but a harmless minority in India. Then why are you Hindus bent upon their destruction?.

Queer,

Perhaps you could also explain why the majority of wars initated in the last 20 years have been fought by the USA?

Economic interest?

Why is the US army spread so far and wide across the globe? Religion?

Do you believe that the ozone layer is being harmed?

Then do you realise that at the last environment conference, George Bush (then US President) said "American economic interests come first?"

Why are you looking at the middle ages? Can't you see what is going on today?

Face it. The religious wars have been replaced by the economic wars.

Every single one.

Prove me wrong.

iqadeer,

How would you explain the inequities perpetrated by countries that are following avowedly atheiestic doctrines such as communist russia, china and cuba.<

you have got the answer in your question, communism.

And what about the brutal policy of subjugation by the so-called secular India against Kashmiris<

Precisely my point, isn't the conflict purely based on religion?

Hindus....extremist hindu party .... secular ...muslim invaders....muslim minority..blah blah india bashing.<

You have provided me with a plethora of incidents which prove that religion is the root cause of all troubles. And please, the topic is not "why india is not a secular country", please don't get desparate and drag in anti-india sentiments.

Xtreme,

Perhaps you could also explain why the majority of wars initated in the last 20 years have been fought by the USA?<

And perhaps you could also inform us how most of these wars have their origin in religious conflicts, and america being the regular big boss just jumps in to make sure he get's his share.

Why is the US army spread so far and wide across the globe?<

I thought you would know? Aftermath of cold war and nuclear explosions by over enhusiastic idiots.

The religious wars have been replaced by the economic wars. <

How sad that poor third world countries still engage in petty religious war, while the west have learnt the game!

Every single one. <

Nay, every one where smart people take part.

Prove me wrong.<
Look back from UK to your home..sweet..home.

Queer

america being the regular big boss just jumps in to make sure he get's his share.<

So you agree that most wars are fought for economic reasons.

How sad that poor third world countries still engage in petty religious war, while the west have learnt the game!<

And you agree that it is justified.

Muslims will fight only to establish the will of Allah not to prosper at the other nations expense.

The world belongs to Allah not the Americans, Indians or any other people.

Dear Queer

Show me one example of a country where there is no concept of religion or God, its people living in complete harmony, flourishing economic life, no racial hatred(which by the way is not a religious doctrine), no class conflict, no linguistic clash, no concept of tribehood or familial association.

My friend, you need to wake up to the reality from utopian dream. The idea that you are sub-consciously pushing looks good only on the pages of a paper back edition of a fiction novel. We have enough diversity on this planet to have ourselves eaten up by each other. And I just don't mean racial diversity. This includes diversity of ideas and concepts of wrong and right.

The democratic society that we see flourishing in the US is a product of judeo-christian ethics. Most of the public officials elected in this country have some religious affiliations to chuches, synagogues or you name it. The currency says in God we trust. So eventually, it is religion to the rescue. The concept of equal rights here was not invented by some free-thinking atheist but rather by people who were known as christians.

Dear queer,
Had there been no religion, people would have fought over politics, over nationalism, over sex, or over power.

People tend to fight. religion is one of the many excuses they find.
