A child pushes a car ... When he leaves it the car stops when he touches it again the car moves ... But if he pushes the car hard ... even when he is not touching it the car continues to move ... Until is slows down to a stop, but if before it stops the child touches the car again it will be as if the car has never left the influence of the child pushing the car.

This is the principle of inertia ... for some people Shaitan gives a push before he gets locked up and they continue in their habit of wrong doing until the Shaitan is free again.

No it's an example of seeking knowledge as the OP has done. There is not 1 source of evil, but several sources ... If Shaitan is locked up ... The other ones can still get us.

Regarding literal interpretations ... The people of Ahl-us-Sunnah take as literal that what is meant to be so, and otherwise we interpret, that interpretation has to be supported by evidence. The interpretation can be metaphoric/esoteric or quasi-literal.

Speak for yourself ... The ulema have been handed down inherentce of the faith. It regulates itself by consensus and majority rulings ... If you don't like it ... That is not my fault.

they can't seem to agree on what makes you a muslim. i'm sure they agree on more complicated things.

p.s. about the inheritance bit... that's the main problem with so-called ulema and their followers. they think it's 'baap ki jageer' and use, or rather abuse, it as such!!

The Ash'ari, Maturidi and Athari Aqaaid are all considered of the Ahl-us-Sunnah ... All three have common ground around the aqeedah Tahawiyya ... Please read that thread I started a few days ago to see the aqeedah of the Muslim CONSENSUS ...

Well, the amount of Zakat collected in masjid during ramadan, more people in every salat in masjid, more people watch less tv than ever does show that Sahitaan is not influencing people a lot. However as they say that old habits die hard, people continue to commit sin.

Shaitan is put in 'qaid' for Muslims NOT for non-muslim. That is why we see killings in ramadhan :)
