is not commonly praticed. I don't know anybody with four wives.
Polygamy is common in India also a sikh friend who used to pick on idea of having four wives told me that his uncle has two wives, i ask him why??/ he said its not unusuall.
Islam doesnt evolve, we dont change its teachings. thats why atleast we know what we are doing and what our rules are. unlike christinaty or hinduism who can't even explain the concept of gods or other rules each hindu will tell u a different belief...nothing specific or accuarate...they change their religion thats why the truth which was send to them doesnt exist anymore....they have man made laws and rules.
while we have the true words of GOD.

nope they wont say yes, atleast i wont... because i know its not a common practice.
but its a good rule, in times of war it might save several and in that case i wont mind it either.
Islam allows only Men to marry 4 women I accept. But it is not the other way around. However, there are certain conditions, which every Man has to ask himself before doing second, third or even fourth marraige.
First of all, Man has to ask her first wife of doing second marriage. If he goes against the wish of his wife, that means he goes against the will of Allah(SWT)
*Man can marry to second woman if his wife can't have child or if he wants more children.
*For instance, if I have four wives, then it's my responsibility to give them full rights. Neither more nor less. Equality! So that they won't consider themselves backward or the one who love by her husband less.
*In addition to that, Man has to provide all the facilities and luxuries life[if he is able to do so] . Man has to think before doing marriage with another woman!
*Almost everyone does have a last name as his/her father's name. It doesn't happen only in the religion of Islam but you can find these examples in rest of the religion, too. Your father's name would be carry through from generation to generation, not Mother's. Because of this, Islam allows Men to marry up to 4 women by conditions, which I've mentioned above!
There is always a misconception about Islam among "Infidels" and they always take it in a wrong way. Examples are open in this thread. I don't have to mention it, but if you think what I've just said with open mind, you'd probably starts feeling that by doing up to 4 marriages, it is a great responsibility of a man to do so.

5]evrybody knows with 4 men and one woman u will never know who the father is[when islam was brought to us in the days of the prophet (pbuh)]
6]evrybody knows the birth rate of women is on the increase
and islam is the only religion that provides the logical solution.this system covers evrything.
Yeah… but did you also know that a man needs permission of his first wife to marry a 2nd one? So, those women would not grant their husbands the permission and there wouldn’t be a 2nd marriage. Do study islam with open mind and heart then you will learn. If you continue to mock it in order to defame it, you will only burn your heart and create more hate.

kumarakn, can average women lift same amount of weight as average men??? just curious. basically, they are not EQUAL physically and biologically thats why there are different rules for men and women. Pakistani Tiger also made some valid points, another VERY IMPORTANT point is that men who marry more than one woman are REQUIRED to keep balance in all of his wives, let's see if all men can do it.

Lets differentiate. Islam permits men to marry upto 4 women. Islam does not mandate it.
Please dont make it sound as if God permitting marrying 4 women is the sixth pillar of islam, and that every man in the muslim world has 4 wives and 23 children.
Multiple marriages are allowed, and specific guidelines are given for it. The guidelines are so tough to meet, that in the current day and age, not many men can meet those, nor do many qualify for it. Would they be committing a sin by marrying 4 women? No. But keeping in mind the stringent social requirements attached to it, a very very small percentage of muslim men engages in polygamy.
Is this ordinance misused at times? Sure. But like I said, its a very small percentage that does so. Mind you, mideast makes for a very small percentage of the muslim population in this world. So you cannot use their practices as the norm around the muslim world.
If a woman married 4 men, how would she know who's child she'd bear since she'd be sleeping with all of the men??? That's the original purpose of the holy Quran in not allowing women to marry more than 1 man at a time. Now, as far as men being allowed to marry upto 4 wives, men in those days would go off to war and become martyrs (die) so there were not enough men to go around to support every woman which is why this practice was done. It was/is very logical, as Islam is a very logical and methodical religion, as you can see from this example.
