Re: If Israel vs Palestine dispute is perceived to be Jews vs Muslims dispute

I was listening to NPR speaking of faith and I came across this unusual story. If interested you can hear it.
Robi Damelin lost her son David to a Palestinian sniper. Ali Abu Awwad lost his older brother Yousef to an Israeli soldier. But, instead of clinging to traditional ideologies and turning their pain into more violence, they’ve decided to understand the other side — Israeli and Palestinian — by sharing their pain and their humanity. They tell of a gathering network of survivors who share their grief, their stories of loved ones, and their ideas for lasting peace. They don’t want to be right; they want to be honest.

afaik because in islam circumstances are all important. if muslims are not driven from their homes, or fought for their religion then the advice is to deal with the situation in an amicable manner.

with regards to kashmir and religion, much depends on pakistans actual intention. nifaz-e-shariah or nifaz-e-her majesties law circ1940

having said that, pakistan already has a form of shariah and thus has a good case under all religious and political laws for kashmir, but im no scholar

Because India has more Muslims than Pakistan....

Also, Israel v. Palestine is NOT an issue between Jews and Muslims...It's between Israel and Palestine....there are a lot of noteworthy jews like Phyllis Bennis, Norman Finkelstein, Noam Chomsky etc. who are doing so much more for the Palestinian cause than lazy Muslim leaders who just sit on their butt and do nothing.

Re: If Israel vs Palestine dispute is perceived to be Jews vs Muslims dispute

Its mainly because of India's secular nature.

Re: If Israel vs Palestine dispute is perceived to be Jews vs Muslims dispute

^ India ia secualr? Yeah that's why most indians refer to it as Hindustan and BJP is the second most popular party there.

Re: If Israel vs Palestine dispute is perceived to be Jews vs Muslims dispute

Even Muslims vote for BJP.The matter is not that.India is perceived as a secular state and yes it is by all means.

Another post by Helraiser to get the worse out of us.

Hell how are the gori kurian you are so fond off.

yeah and that is why BJP is not in power.

Re: If Israel vs Palestine dispute is perceived to be Jews vs Muslims dispute

who r the bjp?

and i agree with the aboves post there r much more muslims in india then there r in pakistan and secondly Israel and Palestine war has always been over land

Re: If Israel vs Palestine dispute is perceived to be Jews vs Muslims dispute

Hmmm yeah land , tribal ancestry and sibling rivalry also come into it..... if you go back far enough you'll find that the Isrealites and philistines were both nations descended from Abrahams sons so yeah vendetta royale.

Its not just religion but everythting in this one.

The Israelis of today aren't the descendants of Abraham(PBUH) though. 95% of them are Ashkenazi Jews i.e. descendants of Eastern European Turkic people who converted to Judaism.

Re: If Israel vs Palestine dispute is perceived to be Jews vs Muslims dispute

It doesnt have to be a blood relationship to inherit a religion. We Muslims inherited the faith lost by others, it's one strange part of human history. Faith seems to be passed like a mantle between peoples.

For example look how Arabs are today. The way they have deteriorated over the centuries is shamefull. Our own religion was upheld by Turks and Mongols, races who themselves were once among the most dispicable but somehow they (after thier conversion to Islam) have served the deen better than Arabs.

Just becuase todays jews aren't blood relatives of Abraham doesnt mean that they have no claim to his faith, technically although not blood descendants they are still keepers of the mantle, just like Turks up until the 19th century were regarded as the mantle keepers of Islam.

I’ve never seen the Israeli/Palestinian conflict as a Jewish/Muslim one. It’s mainly about land and politics. But, I can see how religion may play a part…If anything it’s the Jews that make this conflict religious by claiming that it’s their god given right to be given the land (note: not all Jews think this way though)

Also, plenty of Muslim Arabs live in Israel and have loyalty to the state of Israel. I even had an Arab-Israeli Muslim come to my uni for a talk telling us all how great the state of Israel is! He even had the cheek to say that the situation of Arab-Israeli’s would improve if they just joined the Israeli army… :smack:
So, it runs a little deeper than just religion.

With regards to India/Pakistan, from what I understand, religion does play a role although it’s not the sole reason for the conflict.
Correct me if I’m wrong though, I’m not that well versed with the situation.

I’ve met them, a few years back, and I remember thinking how inspirational they were and such lovely people as well.

Re: If Israel vs Palestine dispute is perceived to be Jews vs Muslims dispute

Ali Abu Awad in this NPR program said which struck me well . A Jew and one Britisher said to Abu Awad the Quran asks Muslims to kill the Jews.
Abu Awad said if that is our destiny nobody can stop it from happening but for now let us focus on creating peace and harmony in that land.

India is sometimes refered to as Hindustan because that is what is has been called for ages !!!! As Iqbal said ... "Sare jahan se acha Hindostan hamara ..." he was secular too right ;)

No they are not. Over 60% of Isrealis are Mizrahi, i.e Jews from the Middle East. The largest number are from Iraq, Iran and Morroco, with Russia coming fourth.

A large number also belong to the Yishuv, these are Palestinian Jews, who lived in the country before the creation of Isreal.

Don't fall for Arab propanda, about Isreal being a European implant. What is undeniable is that every Isreali leader has been of European ancestry.

And how we conveniently forget the 5,000 Pakistani Jews that were expelled by Pakistan in 1956, after the Suez war.

It is not always a Muslim vs. Jewish thing.

Palestinian Christians are also Anti-Zionist.

Muslims are not against Jews or Judaism, they are against Kahanism and Zionism.

Some Orthodox Jews are also against Israel/Zionism.

That’s how I see it as well, have never particularly thought of it in my head as a Jew V Muslim issue..

Neturei Karta - Orthodox Jews United Against Zionism

Muslims are not anti-Jewish or anti-Semitic, they are anti-Zionist.

The rift between Jews and Muslims is for political reasons but it hasn’t always been there…

..In Muslim Iberia the Jews and Muslims lived in harmony and mutual-respect… Later when the Catholics went on their inquisitions forcing the Iberian Muslims and Sephardic Jews to convert to Christianity, some of them converted outwardly whilst secretly remaining crypto-Muslims/crypto-Jews whilst some fled, again it was the Muslim Ottoman Turks who gave refuge to the fleeing Iberian Jews in their lands, not only that but they also sent their navies to escort the Sephardic Jews to safe Muslim lands..

I also once saw in a documentory that a Muslim Mughal emperor gave refuge to Jews in his kingdom because his mother who was a devout Muslim told him that in the past they were Allah’s chosen people (for recieving the Torat).

I think the Jewish faith is closest to Islam because we worship the same Allaah/Eloh, we call upon the same Allahuma/Elohim…

We acknowledge and believe in the Jewish Prophets (pbut) so how can we be anti-Jewish? Our Prophet (pbuh) is also descended from their patriach Abraham (pbuh), Arabs and Hebrews are both Semitic cousins so how can we be anti-Semitic?

We both reject Avodah-Zarah or Shirk…

We have similar laws on chastity and morality..

We both circumcise and slaughter our animals in the same manner… If it hadn’t been for Jews then halal/kosher slaughter and circumcision would have been banned in the west and the Muslims would be too incompetent to oppose that ruling.

Islam allows us to marry chaste Jewish women, we are not allowed to coerce them to convert rather they can remain practicing Jews whilst being married to us…

…If we were meant to be their enemy would Allah allow a relationship as intimate as that of a spouse with a Jewess?..

…If we were meant to be their enemy would Allah place the Jannat (Paradise) of a Muslim child (born from the union of a Muslim husband and a Jewish wife) beneath the feet of the Jewish mother?

Islam and Judaism have their differences…

…E.g. Jews don’t believe in our Prophet PBUH, they believe the Torah (for the Jews) and the Noahide Laws (for the Goyim) are the only way to achieve a place in Olam-Ha-Ba (world to come)… Whilst we believe it is neccesary to submit to Allah and acknowledge the last Prophet (pbuh) to achieve salvation..

They believe their Torah is right whilst we believe our Quran is right but these differences of opinion don’t mean we can’t get along with each other in mutual respect and harmony..

We can agree to disagree on some issues and on matters that are common to all Abrahamic faiths (e.g. moral vices that are destroying the moral fiber of our socities) then we Muslims, Christians and Jews can campaign and take a stance against them together.

The verses from Islamic scripture which are misintrepreted and misquoted to suggest anti-semiticism don’t actually refer to all Jews, they were meant for certain groups, times and contexts… I suspect it is the same with anti-Goyim/Gentile verses in the Talmud.

Today the Abrahamic faiths all have enemies far sinister than each other which are athieism, hedonism etc. If we go to the roots, all the Abrahamic faiths have the same values.
