If i get chance to be the PM of Pakistan ... ?

Re: If i get chance to be the PM of Pakistan ... ?

Yes, but the long-term effects of nationalization aren't a price worth paying for the short term benefits. A alternative would be to purchase stakes in the company (up to 30%) or loan it money with conditions attached.

Plus, nationalization means everyone will be trying to get their money out of the country by whatever means necessary. Not only will money go out of the country, foreign investment will drop to zero and stay there for a long time even if the nationalization policy is scrapped.

Re: If i get chance to be the PM of Pakistan ... ?

Your arguments are both valid however weighed against the historic and geo political context we all know to well i see it as a more effective route to self sufficiency which is a long term bonus if you look at the Iranian model where despite sanctions they are growing it gives you an idea of what i'm envisaging.

Furthermore i also point to Nassers nationalisation of the Suez Canal as a prime example how a short term policy of nationalisation can be a great boost to ones nation for it made Egypt a major regional power after decades of ignomy.

Whilst foriegn investment is great if done by foriegners who mean good for your country it's also a plauge if the same outsiders use thier advantage against you as a possible bridgehead.

It's better for a nation to be strong and powerfull so much so that rather than needing investors, investors need it. What do i mean?

Well a state has amny ways of attracting outsiders but ussually the risk is they will begin demanding concesions etc and next thing you know you cant get rid of them.... it's better to be so succesfull even if your success is a fraudulent one to begin with becuase others will want to hop onto your bandwagon thats when you can make demands from them... if for example Indians were to see a thriving Pakistan over a short period what do you think the common people of that nation and other countries are going to think?

My point exactly.

One doesn't need nuclear power alone to overcome ones enemies and rivals. Diplomacy and the pen has been proved a far more effective tool than the sword and fires of war.

When you say nationalisation will result in people hoarding thier assets... your also right but again this can be turned to an advantage becuase it lets you know right at the outset who your enemies are, with a strong judicial sytem theres many legal ways of bringing back what is rightfully the peoples.

Nevertheless i concede there are obvious risks in both our solutuions but the positive thing is that we are together coming up with much better solutions than any of our politicans who are very good at increasing tax revenues and yet cannot pay thier own taxes it seems... Its due to actions of such leeches we are having to dedicate our minds to this cause.

Well he said it bro… :whistling:

Re: If i get chance to be the PM of Pakistan ... ?

I agree with the rest of your points, but please keep in mind that the Iranians are growing only because of the oil money. And they still have a lot of problems like inflation, rising deficits etc. Iran is not exactly a developed nation.

Regarding Egypt, had the US not interfered Nasser would have paid the price for his actions with his blood.

Re: If i get chance to be the PM of Pakistan … ?

Pakistan is also rich in many resources and oil is not everything my friend, however your right in what you say.

As for Nasser he paid his price anyway. However irony of ironies back then USA was indeed crucial to saving him but it was also the Russian threat in the region that made the Americans stand up so boldly either way the British and French would have faced a terrible global backlash had they gone ahead.

I must say this thread has become such a great debate… and to think it started in a much less formal manner. :hehe:

Oh well i just hope some bright sparks reading all this… you never know… we may be influencing the future President. :cobra:

Re: If i get chance to be the PM of Pakistan … ?

Well if i become the pm .. i d lock up zardari back in his cage, get mushy back to pak and throw him to the angry awaam ..and get altafa and tell him to do his taqreer now infront of all the karachi awaam who he thinks is his home but really the state of karachi .. all the killing etc etc etc .. is this how you look after you home .. after all that get altafa to SC ..and answer for his corrupt brain washing ..however, i d try to apoint shabaz shareff as my deputy .. and no more two face politicians like fazulur rehman ..the ‘awaara’ ..that which ever corrupt hukoomat is around ..hes with them .. and last but not least .. the choudry bruvas .. get parvez to the flood afected areas and chuck him in front of those poor ppl who he tried to scam by filling trucks with fodd etc and stick his bootha on the packets but in fact the trucks were over 50 % empty …and finally get chaoudry yauN yauN to a speech therapist …and try to figure out whats hes been saying for the past 10 years ..

after all this .. i d nominate ch ifti ..to be president ..oh .. sieze all policticians accounts and send all the money to the ‘‘bait ul maal’’ and be spent wisely under my own supervision for the flood affected ..road works.. employment ..rebuild swat which mushy destroyed ..and oh yeh .. appoint nawaz shareef as cheif camander of army .so no one can throw him over anymore atleast .. since shabaz will be my deputy .. nawaz wont bother to throw me over …and get rid of kiyani as he still may be under raps to mushy ..

Re: If i get chance to be the PM of Pakistan ... ?

first act- resign.

Re: If i get chance to be the PM of Pakistan ... ?

If I ever get a chance to become PM I will do this and do that. Yeah right. We will never get a chance to begin with. Wait till atleast 50 years'.

We, including me, would like to see a stable and progressing Pakistan. One way or the other, we all love Pakistan. I am sure many of us here would be more than happy to bring Pakistan back on right path, if given a chance.

But, let's face the reality now, how many of you think it's possible? Pakistan is screwed up from bottom to top, corruption is everywhere. Every department/organisation in Pakistan is incompetent and needs to be "tackled & reformed". Education, police, politics, law & order, security, judiciory are to name a few. To get rid of this problems will take atleast good 50yrs, if started from today.

And one person alone cannot do this. We will have to start from scratch. But the elite people who are ruling Pakistan now will never allow this to happen. The likes of Zardari & Ganja will forever rule Pakistan, for at least next two decades they will be replaced by people of their own nature.

So, If I ever get a offer to become the PM of Pakistan, I will be more than happy to turn it down. As my own security would be a major issue, and, regrettably, I am not ready to sacrifice my life for a nation who is so ungrateful. I love Pakistan, but my love for Pakistan is not blind. As far as I can see, Pakistan will remain Pakistan for another 50 years. One person alone cannot do anything and The GoP, Parliament and The People of Pakistan will never allow an "honest" person to rule them, as they they prefer people like Mr 10%. Nations get the leaders' they deserve and Pakistan fully deserve the likes of Zardari, Mush & Ganjas.
