CANNING (West Bengal): A youth was arrested on a complaint of his mother for allegedly raping a minor girl near a school at Diamond Harbour in South 24-Parganas district, police said on Saturday.

“Najir Seikh, a bus conductor, was arrested after his mother Ainur Bibi lodged a complaint with the Diamond Harbour police station after rescuing the seven-year-old girl on Friday,” sub divisional police officer (SDPO) Rupantar Sengupta said.

Ainur Bibi came to know about the incident after Nazir talked about it after returning home in a drunken state, Sengupta said.

Najir and three others had allegedly raped a class-1 student when she had gone outside the school to urinate as the school toilet was closed. She was left unconscious near a bush.

“After hearing about the incident Ainur Bibi rushed to rescue the girl. She took the girl to Diamond Harbour hospital and then lodged a complaint against her son with the police,” the SDPO said.

The family members of the girl were unaware of the incident when Ainur Bibi took the girl to the hospital and later reached the police station, Sengupta said.

The family members and other guardians gheraoed the school authorities and demanded the toilet be opened immediately.

definitely. after a certain point parents just have to hope they did enough to raise decent human beings. but when it really matters, especially in cases of your child being a rapist/murderer etc then this is how it should be dealt with.

She definitely deserves credit for doing the right thing. I am sure it wasn’t easy for her, but again, she made the right decision.

hats off to this lady. this is how a society should work. no protection to be extended to criminals even by the most protecting member of the family who is none other than his/her own mother.

No doubt a very righteous lady. Hats off to her for doing the right thing.

Why did the newspaper find the need to be funny? Isnt there any alternative for ‘gheraoed’ in english?

lol…true! a lot of English Newspapers in India use local terms for certain events…like “laaThii charge”, “chakka jaam”, “naala cleaning” etc … i’m sure there is a word in English for laaThii, chakka jaam, naalah etc. :smiley:

Yes, but those terms are used in jest. Here we are talking about a newspaper report.

I’m glad she did that but I’m wondering what made the son become a rapist in the first place? I highly doubt this was his first incidence. For her sake, I really hope she doesn’t face a backlash over this.
