Now i study Sociology…i happen to do it at LSE…which is supposedly one of the Worlds best universities…i have never met a dumber set of people…people with no life experience but full of academic know how…something which is not useful for my subject…
For sociology…it is neccesary to understand problems in society and then to be able to apply solutions towards them…these i have lived only around rich people…only spent time in private school…only been exposed to the good of the world rather than the bad kind of people…they have never seen problems in their life yet feel that they have things to comment on…and they do this academically…sociology is a subject which requires academic prowess but also requires problem solving ability which can only be gained by exposure or understanding of social problems…
I genuinely met more intelligent people when i was at college…one girl i remember…Shola this black girl from Lambeth…her sister was a single parent…her area was full of drugs and crime…she had a lot to comment on…and she also had useful things to say as to how to solve these problems…but khayre…her essay writing skills werent up to scratch so she ended up with D…Unfortunately social awareness cant get you A’s and even worse…simply having academic knowledge can bring you A’s…
Lol…imagine some white man whos never had problems…never had his children have problem…never lived in a troubled society telling Bengalis in Tower Hamlets how to solve their drug problems…doesnt make sense does it?..
The ideal situation is for those who have both social awareness and academic prowess…but generally we end up with these Oxbridge idiots who know nothing about life telling us how to live ours…
well you can always socialize with people outside ur college as well as the one's in ur college.. have the best of both the worlds... and if u really want to see crime.. go to brixton....70% of the shootings in London take place amongst memebrs of the black community (and I am ot a racist)... if u want to know what economic struggle means.. talk to an Asian living in east London..or working in a shop..... Or if u simply want to see pigeons go to regents park :)

My point is bro...that these people that attend top class univesities tend not to be subjected to the surroundings you speak of from birth...they have gone through the whole private/boarding school thing in areas where there are few social problems cos their paretns are rich enough to afford to live in such areas...
These people are so sheltered from the actual realities in their world yet seem to know so much about it...
So you are right that people should look beyond their college but these people are satsified with their lifestyles...they tend to interact with people whom they know how to deal with etc...they are comfortable with their closed lifestyles...
I chill at Queen Marys...intelligent chilled people who have lived and know a bit about life...experienced bad with the good...and combine academia with a little life expereince...NORMAL people...
At these top unis people tend to have very little life experience and a lot of academic know how...yet these are the people who end up creating our policies...
P.S Brixton aint that bad...its a lot of hype man...go Tower Hamlets...now thats a bad area...Violent crime is by black people granted...but drugs is all pakis and bengalis...
