Identity Theft

Identity theft is becoming more and more common these days. Has anyone been a victim here on G.S? This lady (in the link below) becomes a victim after she orders checks by mail. She never receives the checks, rather she receives copies of the cashed checks with her bank statement few weeks later. Very scary indeed. How can you avoid something that if someone really wants to do it to you? In fact, one doesn;t even have to steal the checks. Anyone with your account number, routing number (displayed on your check), a computer with printer and a check printing software can start screwing you over without you knowing about it.

Re: Identity Theft

Yeah, I guess it’s quite common especially on the web. I myself have experienced it twice. Once I was accused of using someone else’s credit card on my Paypal account and after all the investigation they found out that it was someone else who had been using my account to use a stolen credit card. Recently someone was using my identity to send Second Day Air parcels by UPS and I was the one recieving all the bills. The matter was resolved by UPS though!
