I need to make a nice jora for my registration. I live in the UK but I’m going to get my family to make it in Pakistan (Pindi), so I need to send them some ideas. Problem is, I have NOOOOOO IDEA what to choose! I’m terrible at this kind of thing!!!
I’d like to wear something white, I suppose, as that’s the traditional colour for a registration…but if I see something else that looks nice in a different colour I’m totally ok wearing that (my sister wore peach on her registration and looked beautiful!)
In terms of style, again, I have noooo idea - I quite like the idea of wearing a maxi, but again, not too fussed if it’s shalwar kameez (don’t want to wear a lehenga/gharara etc, or sari though)
In terms of kaam, it should be somewhere in between these two dresses:
this one is too light
this one is too heavy
kaam in between these two, and with a dupatta, obviously.
I’m sorry I can’t be more specific, I’m reallyyyyyyyy rubbish at this, but I need ideas!!
I find this dress gorgeous. Always have always will. You can embellish it a tiny bit more, but otherwise stick to the design and idea. I’d personally work with more lace
Just click on the x and you can see the picture itll open up. Secondly, I would ditch the red patti at the hemline. Make it all gold jamawar. Dopatta in chiffon with similar gold jamawar border. Slight trim of red at the end just to add that finishing touch.
ok it worked - I like the style, but I don't like the kaam on it. But this is the kind of thing I'm looking for, a nice dress with that amount of kaam. have you any more ideas?
yes, nikkah is Islamic marriage and of course will be done, but depending on where you’re living you also need to get registered - here in the UK that’s the way it works. if you were only going to do functions according to what Islam dictates, then you should only do a nikkah and walima, as that’s the Islamic system - everything else, like shaadi, mehndi etc, are just cultural things. Living in the UK, the registration is also a cultural aspect in this country, so I don’t see any harm in doing something for that!
Demesne - thank you soooooo much for your ideas, you’re such a sweetie! I love the style of the dress but I just don’t like the kaam, even with the new suggestions you made. But at least I’ve got an idea of the kind of style I want to wear, which is a start! I’ll keep looking for more though
You are not in Pakistan na? Tell you what, when you come, go to Maria B and look at the semi formals she has already there. You can find stuff off the rack, alter it a bit yourself to make it your own. And you have something really nice without the hassle.
I have managed to go to her sales and pick up stuff that was originally 19-25 K for 4-6K
She has these random sales at times. I just pick what I like, modify it a bit more (not a fan of bell sleeves or flapper trousers or short dopattas)
Second one you posted is nice and a lot of similar stuff can be found at maria B without hassle.
Seriously? this is a fashion thread? take the religious discussion elsewhere. Ive noticed this happening so much in the wedding forum, it’s starting to be uncomfortable and takes the thread off topic.
Never tried to turn it into a religious topic. I was stating a fact. I didn't think there would be any other reason to have a registration apart from fulfilling legalities. But as it was pointed out doing it as a cultural practice is another, a viewpoint I hadn't considered tbh.
love the ideas the ladies are puttin up ! nnabid ur original ideas i find the best .. somethin between the two and/or maxi - i think suits the occasion too since i am thinkin ull be on shalwaar kameezez and lenghas anyways on the event
wow Shehnai, that ^^^ dress is beautiful! I love the way she’s done her dupatta, it’s right at the crown so you can see her hair at the front, love it, I wanna go for that kind of look. great ideas!
what do you guys think of this dress?
It’s kind of similar to the original one you posted Demesne - anyone got a close up of it so I can see the kaam?
also, anyone got any pictures of people wearing maxis with a dupatta - I really like the idea of wearing a maxi, but dunno how you’d wear the dupatta with it, as most models don’t have dupattas with maxis!
