Re: Ideas for Mehndi/Mayo being done at home..
We did my mamoon's mayoun at my parents' house in 2001. A few years later we did a cousin's mehndi there.
We decorated the walls with yellow and orange streamers, Christmas lights, etc. And my mother got a bunch of really pretty looking silk flowers which she arranged to add color -- bright yellow, red, etc. We also got an arch of Christmas lights from Michaels that we used as a backdrop. We put white chaddars onto the ground, keeping any actual sofas or chairs on the edges. In the central areas of the white chaddars we added some colorful tapestries and quilts in orange, red, etc. My mother also covered cusions in yellow, gold, and orange. We also got lots of small glass vases from Michaels, filled them with water, and lit floating candles. These were arranged throughout. The actual entertainment was the usual singing and dancing -- we had lots of fun.

oooohh that sounds prettty! do u have pix?
Re: Ideas for Mehndi/Mayo being done at home..
anyone got any other ideas? I'm looking specfically for decorations for stage set up and house decor...
Re: Ideas for Mehndi/Mayo being done at home..
you can use old dupattas and wrap those around the banisters of the stairs and use that to decorate the walls. what are you going to use as a stage? if you have a day bed (not a futon) you could use that as well. like place a pretty chadar on it with colors of mehndi and mayon (yellow, green, blue). you can also place petals on and around the stage.
Re: Ideas for Mehndi/Mayo being done at home..
my friend also had her mehndi at home, this is some of the things she done:
for the floor she bought some really cheap bright yellow material to cover all the carpet
then she bought some pink, orange turquoise and red sari material and her mum made loads of cushions for the floor, for a stage she made a frame (like a 4 poster bed) and around each leg (and the top square) she wrapped plain turquoise material in top of this she wrapped gold organza type material (like a plaited effect) then we went to a local florist and bought some greenery (like ivy) and wrapped this all around it, for the backdrop she used the same turquoise material then added some fairy lights and infront of this the organza type material for the table infront she had a bouquet mad of orange, yellow pink and red flowers.
for the room decor she bought some flower garlands from an indian shop, although they were plastic they looked real and in the film they really looked like fresh flowers, with these she added beads (chain of bead use for xmas trees) these were tied to the light in the centre of the room and spread to the walls, it really looked nice, also she kept the light really dim and placed pink light bulbs in the light fitting this really gave a nice ambience and made the fairy lights really stand out!
hope that helps
ps sorry for the looooong message :)

Mehndi Decor
Does anyone have pictures of room decorations for a mehndi? We're having my sister's mehndi at our house so we need some ideas of how to decorate.
I think a good idea would be to take net ka kapra (like green and yellow) and like hang that down from the back or something. We're decorating the bench with this yellow and green kapraa. We've also got lights and stuff. My sister said no balloons - she doesn't want it to look like some kiddy birthday party lol. My mom got some of those "gaoun thakkye" (those round pillows) to put on the ground and we've got the mehndi trays and stuff...
Any ideas/pictures would be appreciated. :)
Re: Mehndi Decor

Mendhi Decor - on your own
Hi everyone,
I'm planning on having the mendhi done at my house and will be doing my own decorations, can you guys please give me decoration ideas.
Picture posting would also be a great help, thank you so much!!!
Re: Mendhi Decor - on your own
It'd be helpful to know a little bit about you. I mean where do you live? Would you like a modern or traditional decor? what color is your mehndi ka dress? All these things will make a world of a difference in the final look. :)
