  1. How were the glasses made? I would love to make my own as well. Was it just regular glue or what?

Nice ideas about the glasses.

Re: Ideas for Doodh pilai

Doodh pilai is a rasam the girl's side do. Normally the sister or the girl cousins of the bride will feed the groom milk but he has to pay them first.

Another rasam from the girl's side is hiding the groom's shoes and basically selling them back to him at a price.

Re: Ideas for Doodh pilai

Very nice, silsila! How did you make yours? Did you stick crystals on the glass?

ssbaig, the groom is give a glass of milk to drink on the baarat/ rukhsati day and this tradition is called the "doodh pillai". The milk is brought out in a fancy glass and money is demanded for it. Mostly it is done by the girl's sisters/female cousins/aunts before the rukhsaati but can also be done by the bride's brother.

It is a game, like the kheer thing some families have or the shoe stealing (joota chupai) or way blocking (darwaza pakrai/chunni tanna) thing. As a matter of fact, both can be combined and the groom should be given the milk right after he hands out the money for the shoe. The money can be in any price range but mostly a very high price is demanded and the groom's side keeps bargaining till it reaches an acceptable level maybe. Rs. 10,000 and the final amount is then divided among those who took part in the rasam.

Any glass can be used for the rasam but prettily decorated ones are vogue now and people decorate them according to the bride's dress colours. I think UHU glue will do the trick but I let people who have actually made some answer that one.

when did u get marry? :hmmm:

lovely glass in lovely hands

Re: Ideas for Doodh pilai

hi ssbaig,

thanks for the compliments...well..i made those glasses using glue gun and for the base of the green glass, i used white glue....as for the sequins and all...most of them are laces sticked with the gluegun and glitter glues....and the writing of the names in the middle of the maroon glass ws by the glass paint outliner..they were meant to be the same colour as my cousin's wedding lehnga....
i hope tht ws helpful...:)

Anyone considered offering milk in a 'doodh ki botal' tied with a decorative ribbon. Just place it on a decorated tray/plate and cover with cloth. Uncover the bottle right in front of the dulah. Don't forget to make a real glass, too and serve that one up after teasing the man a little. :)
