Ideas for Brunch

I am having a ‘brunch’ get together for a group of about 10 ladies. Would love any ideas from you all. So far i have come up with the following items:

  • omelette

  • shami kebabs

  • cheese & onion pasties

  • chicken sandwiches

  • fresh fruit salad

  • granola trifle (little cups of layered granola, yoghurt and raspberries)

  • selection of fresh bread and croissants

  • juice, tea and coffee

If you have any suggestions I would be grateful for your opinions and any new recipe ideas.

Re: Ideas for Brunch

the menu sounds yummmmy except the omlette bit... it kinda gives the breakfast feelin. otherwise its gud.

Re: Ideas for Brunch

What kind of omelette? Do a fancy yummy kind with cheese, mushrooms, spinach, jalapenos or something like that. And how about some kind of potatoes with seasoning or maybe hash browns?

Re: Ideas for Brunch

^yeh I agree. You can also gave croissants, Danishes or other breads.

I personally love pancakes, I usually mix the pancake batter with fresh raspberries. Yummmmmmy! The pancakes look so good and taste so good, can also mix in blackberries. Then have butter, syrup, and whipped cream to top it off. They are also very east to make!

You can also have a selection of different cheeses, sharp cheddar, cottage, etc.

Re: Ideas for Brunch

The omelette i was thinking of was more the desi kind of scrambled egg, you know with green chillis, coriander and tomatoes but mushroom addition sounds good.

Hash browns came to mind to....would love a tried and tested recipe cos i've never made them only eaten ;)

Pancakes are also yummy. I have a pre-prepared packet which i've never used. My previous attempts at making pancakes have not been too successful (embarassing i know!), will they be ok? Also how well do pancakes hold up bearing in mind that i'd want to make them about 15 mins before everyone arrives?

Also do you think serving fried fish is suitable for brunch?

Re: Ideas for Brunch

ugh! Sorry I dont like any kind of seafood. Making pancakes is super easy! You can make them on a skillet or frypan easily, If u don't have a pancake maker. The trick is to pour the batter while not moving your hand, it will make a perfect circle. You can keep the pancakes in a hot pot so they dont get cold.

You can also try halal or kosher turkey bacon. It's easy, you just have to fry the strips.

Re: Ideas for Brunch

I think I will have to make to those pancakes! I like them with bananas, strawberries, whipped cream and chocolate spread ;P

Sorry didnt mean to nauseate you with the fish ;)

Re: Ideas for Brunch

Although have to say I feel the same way about any form of bacon, salami or sausage!!...sorry!

Re: Ideas for Brunch

This is always a hit @ my brunches.

Sate sticks with dutch gouda cheese, pickled gurkins, olives and salami.

U can eat it with any kind of bread (loaf, french breads etc) ALso nice with some kind of a dip

Re: Ideas for Brunch

^omg amazing. Anything that has cheese and olives is delicious!!!

I felt the same way till I tried turkey bacon. The first time I tried it was a few months ago. My brother used to make it and the smell was nauseating cuz it would remind me of those awful american bfasts at hotels or diners. It is actually pretty good with scrambled or poached eggs.

Re: Ideas for Brunch

why not do halwa poori, or is it non-desi style totally?

Re: Ideas for Brunch

I'd do a frittata rather than an omlette. I do one with mushrooms, asparagus, cumin seeds and green chillie, how about keema and paratha or stuffed keema paratha, that always goes down well at brunches I've been too.

I agree!

Re: Ideas for Brunch

Afro Sheen: I myself do not enjoy Halwa Puri so I'm not fond of making it either.

Tigerlily: Would appreciate your recipe for frittata...Keema paratha is an excellent idea

Thanx all, keep the suggestions coming in!!

what about fish toast/ fish savories? They are always a hit!

Re: Ideas for Brunch

Quiche!! :yummy: Its like the ultimate brunch dish!
You can also do deviled eggs
I would also add some cheese selection and potatoes

No..doesnt seem very brunchy…only type of fish Ive seen at brunches is smoked salmon, but personally I find it yuuucky :bummer:

Re: Ideas for Brunch

Girl, fried fish will make your house smell.

Re: Ideas for Brunch

expat 1,

I think your brunch menu sounds lovely. You have a good balance of savory and sweet items. If you want, you can include spreads (butter, jelly, cream cheese, etc) to go along with your selection of bread. I don’t think you need to change anything or add any other dish…it’s very thorough.

A brunch is combination of breakfast and lunch, so an omelet is fine. People often make omelet for lunch and dinner as well. You can jazz up the omelet by adding fried potatoes to it, mushrooms, cheese, etc. And you can even use the omelet as filling for sandwiches…(egg sandwich). I think the menu is good the way it is…believe me those ladies will fill up!

But if you want more ideas, I’ve included a brunch link below. Hope it helps.
