I am hoping to do an open house around eid time and hoping to get some ideas here. I need ideas about how to serve the hors d’oeuvres/appetizers and not serve any main course.
I need ideas about:
what should be the menu?
how to serve/set up?
drinks? (I may make fragrant kashmiri tea, and fresh juices) no soft drink like coke wagerah
To understand my situation:
Most of the ppl will be desi indians who are very well travelled and somewhat foodies, few of our french and north american friends will also be there.
If I end up doing the open house I will be inviting about 50-60 ppl, I don’t have any chafing dishes and not planning to buy any, will be using my pint size oven to reheat food, thats why I am hoping for some cold and some hot dishes.
I hosted one open house will my SIL last year for bari eid and for the most part it was good, she had about 300 ppl coming and oven stopped working, it was a nightmare it was in freaking cold that day (midwest north america) chafing dishes were the saving grace.
erm .. 50-60 people is a huge number .. so definitely you will have to do buffet style … keep lesser dishes so that you dont have to run around like a headless chicken …
One of the dishes I would definitely recommend you keep on the meny is Fatayer .. its an arabic pizza kind of thing .. check on the internet you will get an idea .. really easy to make and has so much variation of taste .. a plate can hold 3-4 different types of fatayer
Also you can do Mixed Grill Seekhs … get boneless chicken and lamb bite size pieces .. spice marinate them each .. next day pop them in the oven individually .. when done … keep them aside .. boil a few potatoes … mix some herbs and spices in them .. make small balls and fry them… now take wooden skewers and add pieces of chicken , lamb, potato , roasted vegies .. and you hve a perfect starter …
