Re: IDEAS 2006: ‘Pakistan pursuing defensive deterrence’
I was able to get just a couple of pictures as I managed to take the camera in much later, as initially all cameras and phones were deposited at the Gate Security Post. By the time I had it brought in it was just an hour before sunset and some of the angles were quite bad. I’ll post few of the good ones.
Maddy, specially for you these two of the new APC SAAD. An official from HIT confirmed there are only 2 manufactured so far and both were at the IDEAS. This one on static display and the other out for field display.

Nice Pics Haris! Thanks for posting.
Re: IDEAS 2006: 'Pakistan pursuing defensive deterrence'
it is really funny to see so many people praising such a big excercise in futility
Exhibitions are held to get sales boost, get orders, introduce products etc etc
What was the cost of holding that exhibition? What is excatly the job of DEPO (Defence Export Promotion Organization)? What is its efficiency in terms of money spent and money earned? To me it is nothing more than its defunct and now renamed civilian counterpart Export Promotion Bureau..
This is simple insanity, These multinationals were not here to serve us, they know that Pakistan is teeming with cash flow from US War on Terror and all the coffers of army are brimming with it, they wanted to take the plunge and sell few of their worthy equipment.
I was ashamed to read the news report in DAWN about the sale of HARRIS sets to Pakistan Army at a whopping cost of 160 Million Dollars. Too expensive after we wasted a decade with joint production of these sets with Aselsan of Turkey.

Most of these people getting excited are 'army children', and those who get excited when they see 'cool' pictures, and see a big name trying to sell them something/take their money.
We have yet to hear any major positive impact of this hugely expensive show put on to make Pak Army feel good about itself.
Re: IDEAS 2006: ‘Pakistan pursuing defensive deterrence’
Good, so i take it Pak Govt VIP’s will be following the Indian example(amongst others) and using locally produced cars?
Re: IDEAS 2006: 'Pakistan pursuing defensive deterrence'
The show boosts the countries image and gives it a potential new export partners... The expense is thus worth it. Pakistan may be a poor country, but that doesnt mean you horde every penny as some would suggest.
Re: IDEAS 2006: 'Pakistan pursuing defensive deterrence'
I agree to real deal's analysis
Re: IDEAS 2006: 'Pakistan pursuing defensive deterrence'
I agree to Haris Zuberi and PaKpatriot1's analysis.
Re: IDEAS 2006: 'Pakistan pursuing defensive deterrence'
Can any DEPO afficonado shed some light on the organization, its history and achievements. All i could see on TV was a rubber faced general doing nothing except g*****ose talk
Re: IDEAS 2006: 'Pakistan pursuing defensive deterrence'
i mean to say g-r-a-n-d-i-o-s-e, why the word does not come on screen, i do not thik it is offensive
