I have a few IDE drives like a DVDRW and some hard drives that i would like to use with a laptop. Anybody know any cheap hardware for this purpose available on the net? I tried searching and the ones ive come across are 60-70 USD. Anybody know anything cheaper?

here is a cheap enclosure ///
look around and you’ll find others for less than 50$
Re: IDE to USB to Laptop
^ that's a good one since it comes with a cooling fan. Just make sure your laptop has a USB2 port (or it's gonna be sssssslow)

yaar cheegz, khud bana lo aik :k: (im serious)
Re: IDE to USB to Laptop
I bought a USB enclosure by BAFO and its got an internal cooling fan … its good stuff you know … I’ve seen other cases as well but they are simply pathetic … cheap plastic etc etc. Go for something nice …
I got the BAFO casing for approx USD36 … you can view it here
But I like this one .. its got a more sleek design and has this beautiful metallic finish

nice thing cheegs about tigerdirect is, that they are located in richmondhil zone.. and have "an" outlet store to visit.. BUT let me warn u, its confusing, and alllllllllll their inventory in store is MESSED UP! so not unless u order from them via shipping, u cant really SEE and GET things that are advertised on their site as store items..

Re: IDE to USB to Laptop
I say you should go for something that is reliable and provides protection as well ... else you get a small sized kellogs ka dabba and put the HDD in it ... atleast its better than the cheap plastic ones ... you can save some serious cash this way ... aur aik teer say dou shikar ho jaain gay ;)
Re: IDE to USB to Laptop
yeah....but don't expect the same through put. USB I/O is terrible as compare to IDE/ATA.
Re: IDE to USB to Laptop
^ Can you please provide a reference supporting your statement? I would like to be educated on this subject.

Re: IDE to USB to Laptop
I know. But you don’t get 60 MBps all the time when transfering data from IDE to USB using a convertor. Where as IDE/ATA gives you consistant 66MBps, all native communication.
Cheegz…check this out. For $37 its not bad.
Re: IDE to USB to Laptop
^^Are u one of those guru converters who don't listen to facts? When don't u get the proper transfer rates? when you dont pray?
Re: IDE to USB to Laptop
this ones not very safe you know … quite naked I say … better get a proper casing …
