It was really worth going to. I enjoyed it. Here’s some pictures…
(btw the pictures are really bad, but getting good pictures was the last thing on my mind at the time )
A shot of the Jersey Sunset just before we left to go to the event.
The rest are outside of the Ritz theater (where it was being held). It was really cold and windy outside, and the line was realllllyyy long and all the Muslims froze their bumbums off . There were almost 3000 people that attended.
Bad quality pictures because I increased the brightness when I put them on the computer. (they were really dark before)
A few pictures of the ceiling of the theater, which (ironically) had paintings of pictures resembling those from the Renaissance (nude people, vines, grapes, etc. )
And then there’s some pictures of the theater audience (there was a top section and then a bottom part. Women and men sat on different sides)
Imam Zaid Shakir (pretty much the flyest scholar out there. I loved his speech - he had the crowd laughing My new favorite speaker.)
Imam Siraj Wahaj (an inspiring speaker, as always. He makes people WANT to donate :k: haha)
Abdul Adrees (sp?) (I had seen him about two months earlier at a fundraiser, and the thing I love most about his speeches is how he quotes directly from the Quran, sometimes even giving the exact number of the verse. Unfortunately, many people in the audience chose not to take advantage of this experience and decided to begin talking. At this point, Hamza Yousaf came up to the mic and told everyone that if they wanted to talk, they should leave. He’s the man. )
The women and men were sitting on seperate sides. hahah SUCKERS!
EMM - hmm well this wasn’t really a convention…more like a conference, I guess. Just a series of speeches and some snacks being sold at the back. The conventions are off the chaiiiinnnn . The last convention I went to was the ISNA one in DC about 3 years ago. It was really lots of fun. There were so many things going on…bazaar, speeches, food, namaazes..different rooms for everything.
