ICL reveiled the roster: Inzi, Yousuf, Razzak confirmed

Dinesh Mongia, JP Yadav and Reetinder Sodhi among Indian recruits

Inzamam, Yousuf, Klusener head ICL roster

The Indian Cricket League unveiled its roster of players for the first season on Monday, including Pakistan’s Inzamam-ul-Haq and Mohammad Yousuf, South Africans Lance Klusener and Nicky Boje, and 45 Indian players.

The Indians included internationals JP Yadav, Deep Dasgupta, Dinesh Mongia and Reetinder Sodhi and promising youngsters Ambati Rayudu and Abhishek Jhunjhunwala.

Abdul Razzaq, who announced his retirement from international cricket today, and Imran Farhat were the other Pakistani players named.

Brian Lara, the former West Indies captain, had been named as an ICL player last month.

The announcement was made at a function attended by, among others, Kapil Dev, chairman of the the ICL executive board, Sandeep Patil, Kiran More and EAS Prasanna. Himanshu Modi, the ICL’s business head, was also present. Modi said other players were also in the ICL’s sights and their names would be revealed once their contracts were finalised.

Introducing the players, Kapil said: “I think this is the cream of the country. They have shown much more faith and confidence in than I had when I was at their age. We need people like these who can decide for themselves what they want to do.”

He was referring to the Indian board’s decision to ban all interaction with the ICL and to ban any Indian player who defied that directive.

Mongia, who has 57 ODI caps and was in the India squad on the tour of Bangladesh in May, said he signed up because the ICL gave him an opportunity to play cricket. “I play cricket wherever I can, in England, for Punjab, for India. This is another opportunity to play cricket.” . There was no indication of when the league would be held - it was originally scheduled for October - or where.
The Indian players who have signed up include:

Dinesh Mongia, JP Yadav, Deep Dasgupta, Dheeraj Jadhav, Ambati Rayudu, Abbas Ali, Abhishek Jhunjhunwala, Avinash Yadav, Reetinder Sodhi, Hemanth Kumar, Inder Shekar Reddy, Ishan Malhatra, Kaushik Reddy, Laxmi Shukla, Manish Sharma, Mohammad Ibrahim, Monish Mishra, Robin Morris, Alfred Absolem, Ali Murtaza, Shashank Nag, Shibsagar Singh, Abhijit Shetye, Devendran, Sumit Kalia, Dakshinamoorthy Kumaran, Taduri Prakash Sudhindra, Sarabjit Singh, Thirunavakarasu Kumaran, Ganapathi Vignesh, Devishetty Vinay Kumar, Yashpal Singh, J Hariesh, R Satish, Rajesh Sharma, Ranjeet Khirid, , Sachin Talpade, Shalabh Srivastava, Shreyas Khanolkar, Subhojit Paul, Sumit Kalia, Subhomoy Das, Raviraj Patil

**Pakistan stars join Indian league **

Pakistan trio Inzamam-ul-Haq, Mohammad Yousuf and Abdul Razzaq head a list of stars joining the rebel Indian league

Former South Africa all-rounder Lance Klusener and Indian batsman Dinesh Mongia have also signed contracts.

Pakistan and India have threatened to ban anyone who plays in the event, but that did not deter another Pakistan player, opener Imran Farhat, joining.
Inzamam, 37, quit ODIs and the Test captaincy after the World Cup but had been expected to continue as a batsman.

He and his countrymen join former West Indies captain Brian Lara in becoming high-profile participants in the rebel league, which will initially feature Twenty20 matches played over two months over the next three years.

Australian duo Glenn McGrath and Shane Warne have also been linked with this year’s competition, which begins in October. The ICL paraded 44 Indian first-class cricketers at Monday’s media conference.

Officials refused to divulge the sums being paid to players, but one source said they were “more than enough to make the players happy.”

Media reports said some domestic cricketers, who earned a maximum of 500,000 rupees $12,200] from the Indian cricket board (BCCI) during a season, were reportedly being given nine million rupees $220,000] by the ICL for three years.

Meanwhile the BCCI says it will increase fees for domestic cricketers by 20%, but insists the threat of the ICL is not the reason for the rise.

Little do our mullahs know that the bigger picture of ICL is gambling.

Re: Breaking News: ICL reveiled the roster: Inzi, Yousuf, Razzaq included

I couldn't care less about what happens in world of cricket but you cannot avoid wondering about some of the unfair ethics of it as a business:1. Does india have a law or not against monopolies similar to anti-trust? Seems to me banning workers from joining the competition is solely aimed at stifling competition and so should be illegal in a civilized country2. While all great sportsmen and women are accorded celenrity status in the world, there is something quiite wierd and special about how they're treated in Pakistan and India. Somehow this feels largely unwarranted but then I guess they represent some national pride.3. So Kapil Dev is the new Kerry Packer? Is he rich?4. Why is he enrolling international players but the name is India Cricket League and not International Cricket League?5. Other than Brian Lara who may have life left everyone else seems ex- or 2nd/3rd line - but this could be viewed differently once they play

Re: Breaking News: ICL reveiled the roster: Inzi, Yousuf, Razzaq included

yusuf will be banned for life?
i am speechless right now!

Re: Breaking News: ICL reveiled the roster: Inzi, Yousuf, Razzaq included

^wow didnt expect Yousuf to leave Pakistan

And about BCCI increasing its fees - While this is being interpreted as a reaction to the exodus of players to the Indian Cricket League, it is merely the routine revision that the BCCI announces at the end of each financial year - http://content-usa.cricinfo.com/india/content/story/307524.html

Re: Breaking News: ICL reveiled the roster: Inzi, Yousuf, Razzaq included

Md Yousuf is not bigger then the team. Sadly, he will have to be banned for PCB will lose all credibility. He put $$ before his national colors.

How very sad.

Re: Breaking News: ICL reveiled the roster: Inzi, Yousuf, Razzaq included

-double post

Re: Breaking News: ICL reveiled the roster: Inzi, Yousuf, Razzaq included

It is an Indian cricket league set up to bring young indian cricketers onto the scene who were overlooked by bcci or havent had a chance to show their skills etc etc. They have international players so the younger guys can utilize their experience and learn, and im sure to attract crowds...this is my understanding.

inzi and yousuf 2nd 3rd line players? i dont think so...

Re: Breaking News: ICL reveiled the roster: Inzi, Yousuf, Razzaq included

I'm surprised only at Yousuf...

But I suppose he realised he was coming towards the tailend of his career and decided to cash in...

It's great to see such national pride from our players.

Re: Breaking News: ICL reveiled the roster: Inzi, Yousuf, Razzaq included

Perfect Decision , especially by Yousaf ! **
We dont know how to behave with our Heros, so this is a lesson for us!
**

Re: Breaking News: ICL reveiled the roster: Inzi, Yousuf, Razzaq included

so playing for PCB is playing for Pakistan.
Did Yousuf said that he will not play for pakistan. It is PCB and BCCI who is saying that these players will not be allowed to play for country. dont you think PCB is at fault here?

Re: Breaking News: ICL reveiled the roster: Inzi, Yousuf, Razzaq included

Why are the PCB getting flack for this?

They dropped Razzaq and Inzamam because they were both out of form for the last 2 years.

They told Yousuf that he should consider this a rest rather than a dropping.

It's not their fault that our players don't have the mentality to fight back from a disappointment.

When Brett Lee got dropped, he worked his arse off and came back as one of the best bowlers in the world. When Razzaq gets dropped he signs up for the ICL.

Re: Breaking News: ICL reveiled the roster: Inzi, Yousuf, Razzaq included

It has been mentioned that the league will be starting sometime in October. Assuming they are allowed to play for Pakistan by PCB, it will be interesting to hear from Inzi and Yousuf about their plans of managing their schedule, since Pakistan will be playing against Saffies and India during the same time.

Re: Breaking News: ICL reveiled the roster: Inzi, Yousuf, Razzaq included

^ they've made their choice.

completely agree.

Re: Breaking News: ICL reveiled the roster: Inzi, Yousuf, Razzaq included

In my opinion it’s very easy to judge these players from an idealistic viewpoint and shun them as selfish, or uncaring of national pride, or even greed. Why is the individual guilty when he tries to make some money whereas the PCB, which has hundreds of millions of dollars, retains players for a measly 40-50 thousand rupees a month? A few months ago, the PCB held a meeting for 300 members to discuss the future of Pakistan cricket by booking rooms in PC Bhurban for three days, when this meeting could have taken place in Lahore or Karachi, and thus saved millions. Its the PCB which is shamelessly greedy and the core problem.

As Kapil said its heartening to see young men not giving in to intimidation and harassment and having the courage to take their destiny in their own hands, to challenge the rusting, dusty status quo and stand up for themselves rather then exist in the tyrannical establishment’s setup that reduces players to the role of expendable guns for hire.

A PCB chairman has not been elected since the 90s, if even then. There are serious problems with the BCCI as well where career politicians get themselves elected to head the board, but in PCB its even worse, things happen by direct appointment. This lack of accountability seeps down the ranks and creates a totalitarian attitude, with shameless authoritarianism at every level. It was very accommodating for Yousuf to agree to play under shoaib when he was at one time the vice captain. Yonis Khan might have been a better choice than Yousuf, but im sure shoaib Malik is not. Dropping him from the 20 20 cup was a very ugly move.

The teams in the ICL are to be named for cities in India, if a few more Pakistan players sign up, we could see a team named Lahore and one named Karachi. Id pay a couple of hundred dollars to see Karachi vs Bombay, or Lahore vs Dehli.

Re: Breaking News: ICL reveiled the roster: Inzi, Yousuf, Razzaq included

Very well put, koozager. Why do we expect a higher moral code for our cricket players than we expect for ourselves? Let's say if you are a doctor or a skilled professional, and you're in Pakistan and unemployed, or maybe earning Rs. 5000/month. You get an opportunity from USA or UK to earn US$20,000 per month, how many of us would decline that offer? How many would choose to stay and serve in our country when there's an opportunity to secure your and your family's future abroad? Take a deep look inide your conscience and answer this question honestly. I doubt many would decline such an offer. Hell, most of us would gladly give up our citizenships to get the blue passports. And these cricketers are merely playing for ICL, not renouncing their citizenships.

It's easy to set different standards for the cricketers than we we chose for ourselves. These players are skilled professionals, and they are chosing to practice their skills where they are valued most. It's wrong of PCB to threaten them with life bans.... what if the Pakistan government declared that all those doctors, engineers, and IT professionals who're working abroad are banned from ever coming back to or working in Pakistan?

PCB is as much representative of Pakistan as say, Sarfraz Nawaz coming up with a team and getting Shoaib, Inzi, Yousaf, Younis, Asif, etc to play for that team. It's a myth that PCB represents "national colors" and is the sole guardian of "national pride".

Re: Breaking News: ICL reveiled the roster: Inzi, Yousuf, Razzaq included

Good post. Now you have matured to not remain barhamchari anymore. :D

Re: Breaking News: ICL reveiled the roster: Inzi, Yousuf, Razzaq included

cant not agree more!

Its not he players saying that they will not play for Paksitan, its PCB who are saying that they will not include these players. I dont know why PCB is becoming "shah sai barh ker shah ka wafa darr". I mean people do play COUNTY cricket and get released when country need them and as far as i know ICL's contract also allow the players to represent their countries when needed....so why so much fuss by pcb ?

Re: Breaking News: ICL reveiled the roster: Inzi, Yousuf, Razzaq included

bhaijan who is saying that they made a wrong choice? I am talking of something which will be the next big issue once the dope head PCB will hopefully decide not to ban these cricketers.

I am repeating myself again. How the will manage their schedule since now they have made a commitment with ICL? How are they going to play matches against Saffies and India while playing for ICL during October and November? Will be an interesting situation.
