LAHORE, Aug 17: The Indian Cricket League’s authorities have made a second, more lucrative offer to ace Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Asif, Dawn learnt on Friday.
Sources in the PCB confirmed that the ICL has offered Asif Rs 100 million for a three-year contract and the pacer is carefully assessing the various aspects of the offer before taking a decision next week.
It was reported earlier that both Asif and Shoaib Akhtar had refused the ICL offers last month.
Meanwhile, sources said that the PCB was getting concerned about the congregation of several Pakistan players in London and are wary of their intentions to join the rebel Indian cricket league.
According to the sources Younis Khan, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Abdul Razzaq, Saqlain Mushtaq, Mushtaq Ahmed and Shahid Afridi are all in England these days where a former Test captain and wicketkeeper is intensely lobbying for the ICL.
hopefully they wont take it cuz as soon as they step in in India, bad luck enters Pakistan.
btw is this is the first time ICL is offering, cuz i never heard about such news b4? n if its da first time, then my question is how come they this confidence to ask playerz of their foe? (i mean is it like steal mill )
^brahmachari makes a huge point. Asif will still be playing for Pakistan, if he decides to join ICL, just not for PCB. Pakistan PCB ki jaagir nahi hai.

If Asif takes the deal, he should not play for Pakistan again. He is a wonderful bowler and hopefully will not ruin his career for a quick buck.

Secondly, playing for PCB is not equivalent to playing for Pakistan. It is an extremely mismanaged cricket board that should go the way of disco music. It is quite obvious that Pakistani cricket needs a major shakeup to have any sort of success in the future. If people like you choose to be PCB's lap dogs than thats fine. Just don't expect PCB to bring home a world cup anytime soon (or anytime in the next century).
Also, if Asif and all those others rumoured to be joining ICL actually do accept their offers, something tells me PCB will fold like a cheap suit, much like how ICC buckled when Packer's league showed them up.
Agreed that PCB and the players are at loggerheads and there are a host of issues that need to be cleared up but with all its short comings and pitfalls, the management and the policies; PCB represents Pakistan and this is the only legitimate/legalised board in Pakistan that should promote players, listen to their grievances.
If PCB is the sanctioning authority with powers vested by the Pakistani government then I don't see how players can bypass the institution and play for ICL.
^ exactly. when you're playing county cricket youre NOT playing for Pakistan, you would be playing exactly as much for Pakistan if youre in the Indian Cricket League. Since ICL is supposed to be in competition with ICC you can expect to have conflicts with national commitments.
Its so sad to see so much insecurity among these national boards such as PCB, BCCI etc. I say Mohammad Asif, Shoaib, Razzak etc go for it. Show PCB the finger and go make a life for yourself.
PCB is acting like a grumbling parent who doesnt want his/her child to marry someone PCB doesnt like, and is thus threatening to aak (disown) the players. I say everyone who has been offered a position in the ICL to GO FOR IT. PCB the grumbling parent will soon realize it has disowned all its children and will soon come back begging them to come back home.
And i agree with some of you above, Pakistan PCB ki jaagir nahi, India BCCI ki jaagir nahi.
I really really wish that all star Pakistani players join ICL..only then stupid PCB would understand the height of their idiocy…..but I do not blame PCB as well as BCCI folks…..what do you expect from almost uneducated people with a confined thought process limited to Pakistan and India only….what do they know about the international sporting culture, professional requirements and contractual nuisances ….plus these officials are extremely jealous considering the fact that players will make so much money …….soccer players play for different leagues all over the world earning million of dollars…imagine their respective boards threatening them to ban them…it can only happen in cricket world esp in India and Pakistan…
