So, Eyjafjallajokull erupts and bring all eurupean air traffic to a halt. They say the losses suffered by the airline industry are far bigger than the time of 9/11.
Mechanics of the eruption aside, what are your thoughts on the socioeconomic, geopolitical, environmental and other effects on today’s society?
The first thought that comes to my mind is that it provides mother nature some relief from the fuel guzzling airline industry. But its easy for me to say sitting far away from the action.

Well that is natures way of keeping the Airplanes Grounded..........
I wonder if that could be used by Third World countries as defence against foriegn intruders or attackers?
What if all the vibration and landing of all the huge airliners shook the tectonic plates enough to create the gap for the magma to rise up through the volcano and erupted dust all over the place, halting all the air traffic.
Now that would be a good plot for a movie, if it was a late 80's, early 90's movoe.
You can see that there is very little/no activity in Europe…then as soon as everyone was given the green light regarding the volcano ash, the airspace was back to its normal crazy self.
