re: ICC Women’s World Cup: Pakistan women’s team staying in stadium clubhouse
Discrimination against cricketers – The Express Tribune
The Pakistan women’s cricket team’s visit to India for the World Cup has turned into a security and logistical nightmare. First, the team could not go to Mumbai, where its matches were originally scheduled, after the Shiv Sena started issuing its usual threats against visiting Pakistani teams. Now, hotels at the alternative venue of Cuttack and neighbouring city Bhubaneshwar have refused lodging to our players out of fear.

the match was not held in mumbai. either way these are minor issues that have no real security implications unlike real threats elsewhere. yes, i think the statement “all hotels refusing to host a team” is not possible. if a clubhouse did not exist at this stadium do you really think they would not have been at a hotel? also what is “all hotels” - how many suitable hotels do you think are in a small backwards city like cuttack? given that the clubhouse was probably superior to any local hotel, do you think organizers would have called up every hotel needlessly searching for accommodation? and then all of them said no and refused a large sum of money? if there was any request for additional security do you think the organizers might have concluded that it would be easiest at the clubhouse? please think a little more about the logical sequence of events/decisions and likely rationale. also think about whether the details we have at our disposal to analyze are adequate - one article with very little content from unnamed sources and no follow-up coverage of any kind. the problem is that it’s easier to be outraged than to think.
okay, so organizers needlessly placed other teams in inferior hotels but chose to provide superior lodging at the stadium for Pakistani team, thank you for opening my eyes.
