The Eng-NZ final showed how obscure, arbitrary, irrational rules can mar the emotional climax of a great match. ICC should learn from this and update some rules.
Teams should keep playing super overs until a tie is broken. American sports have unlimited extra innings or unlimited overtimes in playoff games and are never decided on technicalities. Games that go into extra innings or overtime are high-intensity, high-tension, emotional games. It's an absolute emotional letdown to end them on a technicality.
When a fielding throw is deflected by a batsman unintentionally the ball should be declared dead and no further runs should be counted other than what have already been completed. The current rule is not only unfair but too complicated to judge and resulted in an error from the umpire where Eng were given 6 runs instead of 5.
There are a lot of things to be changed from ICC's point of view. As mentioned in the other thread they should give priority to H2H rather than NRR for the teams tied on points so that whoever team has defeated another can move forward.
As for the two points mentioned in initial post, I agree with the first one. Second too but with slight change. See if its deflected by the batsman then wherever it goes that shouldnt count. So that should have been only 2 runs instead of 6. Whatever happened didnt make much sense but just like NRR a rule is a rule. However now is the time to change it.
The problem with ICC is that they are so much under the influence of Indian lobby that they cant even think of anything without BCCI's say. Just like the reviews system. It makes no sense to give only one review to each team. It should atleast be two.
This is another stupidity but I guess its more related to point # 1. But why the heck it would depend on “number of boundries”?! It can be # of fallen wickets but why boundaries?
I think more than rules, the error in judgement by on-field umpire cost NZ the game since awarding 6 runs for the over throw when 5 runs should have been given turned the tide......
Once the match reached to super over، wat ever happened in 50 overs stands void as both teams shown equality each other . Other wise y to go for super over . Make decision directly on no. Of 4s or 6s or wickets.
