KARACHI: The Indian representative (s) who attended the International Cricket Council (ICC) and ICC Development International (IDI) meetings in London and Monaco last week came under fire for their attitude and unreasonable stand on important issues and their relations with other cricket boards. ‘The News’ has learnt that majority of the ICC members criticized the behavior and attitude of the Indian board President Jagmohan Dalmiya and other officials concerning their dealings with other boards and on important cricket issues.

“The Indians were clearly not on everyone’s popularity list during the ICC/IDI meetings and this was obvious from the way Dalmiya and other representatives were snubbed during and outside meetings,” a source said.

It is learnt that as usual Dalmiya adopted a very aggressive attitude when the issue of the compensation claim by Global Cricket Corporation (GCC) against the ICC came up for discussion.

“When Dalmiya said that GCC had failed to properly market the World Cup, most of the members were very upset and launched a scathing attack on his behavior and that of the Indian board,” the source said.

"Dalmiya realized that India was standing alone on the compensation claim issue and no one was challenging the IDI decision to withhold guarantee money payment of approximately US$9 million to the Indian board in view of the likely claims for damages from the GCC for violation of ambush-marketing clauses by Indian players during the World Cup," the source claimed.

“Some members also criticized the Indian stance of not playing Pakistan in bilateral ties,” the source said and added, “some members even insisted that India should resume bilateral ties with Pakistan at neutral venues as soon as possible.”

The source said that there were also sharp exchanges between the outgoing President Malcolm Gray and Chief Executive Malcolm Speed with Dalmiya when he protested against Gray’s statement on the match-fixing issue.

In contrast the proposals mooted by Pakistan received a favorable response from the ICI and IDI members and the cricket management committee even accepted that the laws and procedure governing bowling action problems needed to be reviewed immediately.
