ICC CT: Sub Continent teams vs. Rest of the world??? *Corundum *

There are my 10 cents:

Despite having eminence, class and abundance of talent to match the world champion’s top 11, All the South Asian teams lack temperament, consistency, discipline, application and mental strength to match the unequivocal class and that has been the downfall of the South Asian cricket team.

Nope I am not out-lashing after watching Sreesanth and Co. bowling numerous lollipop bouncer’s to the Aussies front end batsmen in the ICC CT match, but a lack of plan against the individual player of the opponent team. What’s most common ideology between Sri-lanka, India, Pakistan and Bangladesh? It becomes a simple answer, if you are a true follower of cricket; all have the services of foreign coaches, apparently it begs the question, what can they bring in and what they can assimilate and reform with a team(s) who are geographically many miles away?

Ironically the three power houses of South Asian cricket have heavily relied on all-rounder’s (batsmen who can bowl and vice versa) in near future. One team keeps on playing musical chairs and the other keeps popping out I. Pathan like a rabbit out of the hat. The combination of “Bollywood and Hollywood” (foreign coaches and desi teams) only look good on 70 mm screen, unless every individual of the playing 11 know their role precisely. I am still a firm believer that a team should consist of 5 batsmen, 5 bowlers and 1 W-Keeper (exception: an all rounder of a class). Pakistan carry a load of one-too many all-rounder’s and India or the coach of the Indian team wants to see when I. Pathan will crash out with the burden of bowling and batting.

You may agree or feel free to differ but team Sri lanka is set on a course to do things right, one step at a time but it’s a long way to go but I think it will finally pay off; Jaysuriya is a preserved specie in Srilanka now till the WC 07’ but they have found another opener to fill that void in the form of Tharanga and I am sure he will learn a lot by playing aside with Jaysuriya. T. Moody is doing a good job with the tigers they have become the best fielding side in Sub-Continent and within the space of year or so they might edge out their neighbors by leaps and bound.

The idea is simple, do the basic things right, improvise one step at a time, Pakistan bowling (fast / medium pace) is in no danger with Gul, Rao and Arafat (to an extend) stepping up when required, however one can argue that there are more talented bowlers in the domestic cricket to step up and perform when the A string bowlers are out due to various reasons. What’s vulnerable for Pakistan cricket team is their batting and laptop coach or no laptop coach. Pakistan hasn’t found a decent opening pair yet and their neighbors are being robbed blindly by a coach who impressed the selection committee to select a coach by showing power point slides, head butting and egoistic approach by BCCI when tackling Ganguly’s matter. Only if cricket could be won by showing power point slides show.

There should be no nonsense approach to cricket in Pakistan and India and I don’t mean only in international arena but playing field should be same when it comes to management and domestic cricket. Here is a tip for the coaches who are becoming multi millionaire day by day please show the team how Damien Martyn bats and please show the team how Glenn Mcgrath bowls and make sure they do that on the green and I am sure you guys will win not only key to the bank but too the heart too.

Including the article as a whole, the above line was worth more than ten cents. :)

Quite a good piece you have composed, Acrobi Bhai. Very glad to read some crucial statements after a period of long, long time.

What strategic edge as Sri Lanka got over India/Pakistan when they also seem to rely on all-rounders and a foreign coach, which is precisely what Indo/Pak is doing.

I think one approach can work well for a team and may not work well for another team. One size does not fit all. Thus neither of "no all rounders" or "plenty of all rounders" is a recipe for success for all teams.

The part I agree with with overwhelming confidence!!
we are not intelligent in planning for the opponent teams players' weaknesses...

Re: ICC CT: Sub Continent teams vs. Rest of the world??? *Corundum *

The strategic edge I mean is in the form of Tharanga, Mahroof and Malinga and icing on cake is Dilshan’s fielding. WD bhai I am certainly not saying that what is good for geese is certainly good for gander. The grooming of players with the senior team member’s Jaysuriya, Vaas and Attapatu. I can 100% vouch for what you can learn on the green with an experienced player, you cannot/never learn in pep talks or crash camps.

I am simply saying focus on matters at hand; the flaws of the current players in the team(s), how to improve their speciality (Batting, bowling or Wicket keeping), basic fielding techniques, rather than focusing on having too many all-rounders.

When was the last time Pakistan saw a quality spin bowling in ODI? and No I dont consider Malik, Hafeez or Afridi as a quality spin bowler, Yes Afridi bowling has improved but its no where near having Saqlain Mushtaq or Harbi Singh. There are many other issues; if Woolmer make a check list of those issues he can easily rectify those problem in the camps and certainly when Pakistan’ embark on their next tour, that is after hosting WI. :jhanda:
