Re: ICC Awards 2009
what in heck has MS Dhoni and Graham Onion have done to grant nomination for Cricketer of the Year. Does winning the world cup for your country not qualifies as a cricketer of the year performance. Shahid Afridi should be up there
Dhoni is currently the no. 1 ranked one-day player. He has been consistent in one-dayers for a while. Maybe Indian guppies can enlighten us on this. These nominations take into account individual brilliance + consistency over the past year regardless of whether or not you won anything for your country. That ofcourse does not completely rule out bias.
And I agree Afridi should have been there but maybe the ICC regards T20 as a lesser form than ODI. Not so sure about Onions though

These awards are based on consistent performance over a sustained period of time, and not just some flash in the pan win.
Probably thats the reason Afridi is not in the list.

Flash in the pan?
Afridi has been the most consistent player in ODIs and Twenty20s this year. In ODIs, he was probably among the top spin bowlers in the world and in Twenty20s, he was the best all round player with multiple match winning performances. I just don't get how Graham Onions is up there and Afridi's name is not even mentioned.
