Does Ib-n-Halaj Means ego or something similar? If not then what does it means?
Re: Ib-n-halaj
yes, Mansoor ibn Hallaj is often used as an example in the context of ego or nafs.
Re: Ib-n-halaj
Thanks!
Do you also know the history, i mean the incident or kissa related to this...
Re: Ib-n-halaj
Lusi... I know a little... He was a mystic, often referred to as the "martyr of mystical love" and was persecuted for his notorious description of his union with God, when he claimed to be an epitome of the truth "ana al-haqq".
Re: Ib-n-halaj
yes, he had achieved such a level of harmony with God that he ended up proclaiming the famous phrase "Ana al Haq" literally meaning i'm the entire truth, which he used to mean to say 'i am God himself'. the ruler of the time, whose name i'm not able to recall had him executed for being blasphemous.
to this day it's believed that he had indeed achieved a very high level of awareness even among the most accomplished sufis and had had some revelations of sort that made him discover certain truths, which we the common humans cant perceive all of a sudden...
Allah knows what the actual truth behind it all is...
some remember him in a positive way some in a negative way.
Re: Ib-n-halaj
hmm.. interesting...in sufi poetry he is taken/quoted in a positive manner for his love for Allah...it is also possible that people misinterpreted him and went with actual meaning of the phrase then looking at his interpretation (??) of the phrase.....
....anyhow ofcourse Allah knows better
Re: Ib-n-halaj
^Could be. SOme still beleive him saying “Ana al Haq” was in a certain “state” when he was so close to God that he did not felt a diffrence & he felt both (God & himself) as a single entity. It wasnt him proclaiming as a God but refering to a state [of sufism] he reached.
Ocourse only God knows the truth. Wallahu alam.
