'I wouldn't like to be in that' - Welsh tractor's 500m tumble

**A farmer had a lucky escape when his tractor rolled 500m down a hill and ended up in a reservoir in Powys.**Rob Davies, 27, was working on a slope above Clywedog reservoir near Llanidloes when he lost control, but he managed to jump to safety.

The aftermath of the incident was captured by professional photographer Derek Newall.

He said he watched in horror as the tractor slid and then rolled down the hill, before ending up in the water.

Mr Newhall was in the area with his partner and her son.

He said: "My girlfriend’s son said: ‘look at that tractor up there. I wouldn’t like to be in that.’

"Moments later, as we were driving away from a viewing area at the reservoir, he said the tractor was moving quickly and then he said it was sliding backwards.

"It was out of control and we watched in horror as it slid, rolled and landed in the water.

“We called the emergency services and could not see any movement in the now stationary tractor. We shouted across and eventually someone shouted back and said they were alright.”

Mr Newhall said the accident happened on 9 April.

Rob Davies’s father, Alwyn, said his son escaped injury.

“He managed to jump out at the top when he felt the tractor going,” added Mr Davies, who farms in Llanidloes.

"It was not worth the risk of trying to save the tractor. The conditions were a bit wet and the grass peeled off like a carpet."This article is from the BBC News website. © British Broadcasting Corporation, The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites.
