I made a lot of friends here when i started chatting on GS with the chat feature. Online you come across a lot of characters. Savoury, unsavoury, decent, not decent etc.
The most open minded yet decent desi guy i have met has been on GS. I never expected it. Not in real life or in West but online. He was understanding, acknowledged double standards in our society, believed that guys should help out with household chores/cook and supported females to work after marriage. He was also against the way some mil mistreat dils and against society being harsher on females than males for being in broken relationships/divorced etc. I was able to discuss society, culture and politics freely with him and he understood and agreed with my point of view when it came to India/Pakistan issues as well. At the same time he realised the importance of family/relationships as you would expect in a desi raised individual. That respect should be given to both in laws and they should be treated like your own parents. I’d say he was a good friend. Unfortunately due to distance and the fact online communication without families being around is hard it would have been hard in long term for something to eventuate although it was something that was pondered. At the end of the day if you meet someone and potential is there but you know due to distance it is hard for it to happen best is to move on and be friends. It’s better to mutually decide to stop talking before you realise the commonalities you have and the possible potential to be jeevan saathis. Yet it cannot be for external distance reasons.I respect his determination to stay true to his roots, not want to move abroad and his ambition to make his country a better place. We don’t chat anymore on GS but i’ve seen him around GS and like he wishes me i also wish that he finds a soulmate who realises his potential, someone who respects his unique personality, pushes him to higher heights to shed his self doubts and achieve what he is capable of and above all someone who values his personality and soul more than material possessions. He has been through a tough past and as a friend I hope he gets someone deserving of him as he has a gem of a personality.

Anyways thanks to GS for making me realise desi guys like that do exist. I didn’t think there were many guys of any background who were like that who had the beliefs you’d expect in a typical western raised individual, which he wasn’t, as well as the family values/knowing the importance of relationships you’d expect in a typical desi raised individuals.
