Re: I wonder...

the main objective of this particular eid is to sacrifice the animal. so first the men go to the mosque to pray the Eid Prayer, while the women prepare food to be eaten during the day, get their kids ready, get themselves ready, and get the house ready for the tons and tons of guests to arrive.

then once the men come back home, there is a wait for the butcher, or qasai to come and do the deed. usually the uncles are getting real mad cuz the qasa is taking his sweet time and he was booked for such and such time. usually this stems for the fact that they haven't eaten yet. cz they are fasting. this is a special fast, and you're supposed to break it from the meat of the animal you bought, took care of, and are going to sacrifice now in the name of Allah.

the qasai strolls in, then ASA's picture happens. Then comes the whole taking the hide off part, gutting the animal. BBQ's can happen at this time too. (fresh meat BBQ...yummmmmmmmmmmm). this takes about the whole of the afternoon. people usually don't go far from their house during this time.

once evening time strolls around, and the streets are full of blood (goat/sheep/cow's), the families get ready once again, and take the meat that is to be distributed among friends and families and go visting people. sometimes some neighbour kid will knock on your door handing you your share/portion of the meat from his goat that got sacrificed, that he so lovingly took care of.

women put away the meat.

this whole visiting/distributing thing goes on for a few days.
