I wish Thanks Giving was MEAT-FREE

i am a vegeterian & so i would like to hear what people have to say about a vege-thanksgiving.

have a wonderful thanks giving, in any event.

Re: I wish Thanks Giving was MEAT-FREE

A caucasian friend of mine is vegeterian and she enjoys Thanksgiving as much as others do. Infact, I joined her once for Thanksgiving dinner and they had plenty of other veggie dishes such as mixed veggie roast, veggie lasagna etc etc. I didn't miss meat even though I can't live without chicken.

If you don't mind, may I ask the reason, why are you vegeterian?. My friend is because of animal rights & stuff

Re: I wish Thanks Giving was MEAT-FREE

exactly, so. i used to eat meat, but then something happened. i became more conscious of animal rights as well. i feel almost
& with that mind set, even the smell or sight of cooked meat now bother s me.

i am not totally vegetarian. i am lacto-vegetarian, eat dairy as well, & am guilty of taking fish or shrimps. but i am way averted from bird meat and what is considered halal food footed animals' meat. i think we are cruel when we do what is done to these tongue-less, poor animals.

the argument that it is a food chain thing & otherwise animals will grow out of balance in their populations - does not compute to my mind.

personally, if it was all about me, i would happily be a pure herbivore.
but of course care for other humans matters, too.
if they are eating or expect me to cook it for them, they have a value in my heart as well.

i hope at least people can be good in raising the to-be-eaten animals while they raise them & not exploit the cows, calves, sheep, lambs & birds. & also eat less than they use to eat meat before.

but then, i am no one to bid others, unless out of their own volition they realize the indignation suffered by the animals by what humans do to them.

Re: I wish Thanks Giving was MEAT-FREE

Personally i feel like i like meat a lot and i think that if halal meat is available and its ALLAH'S blessing that we are eating it, so why not.I don't like veg. much so i am sorry if isaid something wrong. But i cannot give my points to vegeterians at all.annd if its thanksgiving why not enjoy eating halaal turkey.

Re: I wish Thanks Giving was MEAT-FREE

i tried going vegan for a while and although i've given up on all dairy i do eat fish and chicken. I tried giving up all meat but my health suffers because of it. Maybe If I had someone preparing proper proportions of veggie foods that provide enough protein and vitamins needed for survival I would totally go for it but I couldnt figure out a way to do it successfully as some veggie food groups do not suit me either.
So when its my survival against the animal's survival...I choose myself. but i try to eat very less meat and fish (some say fish do not feel pain...dunno how true that is) and choose more veggies whenever i can.
by the way if u ever did research on what torture mother cows go through to mass produce milk for the nation u would stop having dairy as well.
regardless i applaud vegetarians for making the effort.

Re: I wish Thanks Giving was MEAT-FREE

You know actually, there is a Hadith too about eating too much meat.
I don't remember the exact words but our Prophet (PBUH) forbade us to eat a lot of meat.
He asked us to have balance

Re: I wish Thanks Giving was MEAT-FREE

well balance is good but bot pure veggie or pure meat eater

Re: I wish Thanks Giving was MEAT-FREE

Well, I’m a vegetarian…I’m not a strict vegetarian. I eat beef…and pork…and chicken. Yea, semi-veg.

Re: I wish Thanks Giving was MEAT-FREE

Pir sahib, what do you have against some free meat? I think Thanks giving day the meat should be free.

Re: I wish Thanks Giving was MEAT-FREE

Remind me the logo of one of the chicken specialist restuarant. We love vegetarians; all our chicken are vegetarians.

I am supposed to be vegetarian because of my gout problem but heck I am not a ghaas phoos man. Sorry Dush.
