I will get even faster, Shoaib warns England

Pakistan paceman Shoaib Akhtar warned England that he will get faster and stronger after making a three-wicket return following a six-month absence from one-day international cricket.

“I know I can get better and faster. I just hope to stay fit - and by the time of the Champions Trophy (in October in India) I should be at my peak,” the 31-year-old told www.bigstarcricket.com ahead of the second one-dayer against England at Lord’s on Saturday.

Shoaib, sorely missed by Pakistan in their 3-0 Test series defeat by England, was back in action in the rain-ruined match in Cardiff on Wednesday taking three for 45.
"It’s my rhythm that concerns me most, and I was pleased that it felt good. The fact my speeds were getting up towards the middle 90s on some deliveries shows that I haven’t lost the ability to bowl fast while I’ve been out!

"As any fast bowler knows, the better your rhythm, the quicker you bowl.
"The team is playing some really good one-day cricket, and I think the only way we will lose this series is if we become complacent.

“If we all stay focused and play to our ability we will take some beating - because we have a lethal combination. I don’t mean any disrespect to England - they have some dangerous players also - but I just think we have the advantage with experience and ability.”

Shoaib looked impressive in Cardiff where he and new-ball partner Mohammad Asif made life tough for England’s batsman.
“It’s nice to finally be back in international cricket after all those months on the sidelines,” he said.

“The Cardiff match was a nice comeback - but it’s only the start.”
Shoaib, Asif and Rana Naved-ul-Hasan were all playing just their second international match - the first was Monday’s Twenty20 against England at Bristol - since their respective injury troubles.

The hosts therefore got an idea of the pace-bowling firepower Pakistan were lacking in the recently-concluded Test series.
“The first one-dayer at Cardiff was always going to be a harder test for me, but it was exactly what I needed,” added Shoaib.

Re: I will get even faster, Shoaib warns England

Great to see Shoaib Akhtar for being faster. He bowled many deliveries above 90 MPH and looked dangerous. He looked fit enough and InshaAllah he may remain fit. Pleasuring to see his bowling confidence.

Re: I will get even faster, Shoaib warns England

I hope he doesn't lose his accuracy like before trying to bowl faster.

Re: I will get even faster, Shoaib warns England

I think he is derailing again. Did he quit praying or what? Could some one align him with the track plz. Inziii

Re: I will get even faster, Shoaib warns England

As long as he focuses on getting wickets rather than hitting 100mph then hes fine...i think getting that record has done wonders for him cos now he can focus on bowling line and length which hes been doing well in the lasy year or so...i just hope it continues...

Re: I will get even faster, Shoaib warns England

I doubt he will hit 95+ anytime in the future.

Re: I will get even faster, Shoaib warns England

Usually he does only best in his 90 delievers than slower delievers because the special talent he has is pace.

Re: I will get even faster, Shoaib warns England

yeah definetley not. but i'll be more than content with seeing a consistent 92-93 average.

although i wouldn't rule out a faster 95+ delivery during a spell where he's really got the rhythm flowing.

we need to find a replacement true fast bowler soon :/

Re: I will get even faster, Shoaib warns England

Don't worry we have Moh'd Sami waiting in the ranks.

Re: I will get even faster, Shoaib warns England

Shoaib is doing the right thing; he is the aggressor now in Pakistani attack. He brings the roughness, arrogance and swagger that are need. This defines the team and I think now Shoaib is mature enough to take over this role. Do not worry about him loosing his way; he never did when we look at his bowling. The only problem was his fitness and attitude; we have gone pass that era. Time for Shoaib to make the mark, he can be the best of this generation and the march should begin now. There are rarely any bowlers who can not only bowl fast but also keep the variety in their over. He needs to keep the intimidation factor of his speed because this is what made him Shoaib Akhtar.

Re: I will get even faster, Shoaib warns England

*He is way beyond that stage now Ehsan bhai. He is a quality bowler and a smart wicket-taker; gone are the days when people would slate him for “oh yeh to speed ke peechay para rehta hai”. His speed is his strength, and he has used it effectively to achieve a magnificent strike rate in test matches over the past few years. The only thing that worries me is his fitness. *
