Yeah, that Mian Ahad’s house is basically my dream house. I’d still add some touches to it to give the “lived in/rough” feel. It is so gorgeous, I saved all the pictures for the future. >.< Also, I want to take some initiative and revive the elephant since it is one of the symbols of South Asian culture. Turns out, we have less than a dozen elephants in all of Pakistan. That just is not enough. It would be a dream to build an elephant park which only had elephants and rhinos living freely. I think they have that kind of a makeshift habitat built in Nepal and India, Pakistan def. needs one too.

vaise, why wud you want a Haveli? it’s too big N too hard to do the cleaning and to maintain it…why NOT a modest house?

Something about it fascinates me and I have this strange fascination with the Mughal era, elephants and peacocks. Basically anything antique and vintage, so a heveli is the ultimate dream.

I grew up hearing from my Nani about her family's haveli in Warangal, India (outside Hyderabad)...apparently, the main darwaza was so immense, a haati could pass through easily....

You can make it in lahore, but if you don't live there and just visit there from time to time then there is a likely chance that some low life would occupy it illegally and give you a lot of legal trouble of leaving it. So don't buy a house in Pakistan if you don't plan to live in it all year round.

yeah, true...even our home in a village has huge doors called 'phaaTak' which is wide enuf for a haathii to pass through. those days are gone when **"darvaaze pe haathii jhoomaa karte the!"**** :)**

If you have them kind of sattu (resources), sure why not.
Personally I am not a fan of big houses. For some reason I find big houses intimidating, shallow, and somewhat scary. Just not comfortable with the idea. Plus they must be a B to maintain.
And not to sound holier than thou, but I wouldn't really want to be held answerable for dwelling and swelling in a mansion when there's millions starving. I find that a bit too inhuman'ish/zardari'ish.
