Re: I want to appreciate Shahbaz Sharif - (Metro Bus)
This is a terrible project considering the fact that pakistani infrastructure hasn't been improved like it is in the evil "West" to accommodate for the induction of new vehicles. I am not completely against the yellow cab scheme, though I think corruption happened there as well with hundreds of cabs languishing with no owners and net loss, but a railway system in lahore, karachi etc would have been much more environmentally friendly. I would understand this gimmick from a cow dung seller from mandi bahaudding (there is a reason that there is a term starting with "D" for these people) but I expect better from the "intelligent" CTBT.
Re: I want to appreciate Shahbaz Sharif - (Metro Bus)
^ did you take a ride on metro bus? I did actually three times in last month. Quiet astonishing to complete such a huge project in a less then a year.
Let me tell you from the ground, it works and NS/SS did the marvelous job again just like motorways before.
Oh metro is coming to Rawalpindi, Multan & Faisalabad by next year, hopefully it will take off couple of thousand cars from the road !
verdict is, people like it or not sitting in your living rooms with ACs on but for ordinary Lahories that's a miracle come true.
Re: I want to appreciate Shahbaz Sharif - (Metro Bus)
Its really easy to say build a underground railway system but Pakistan seriously lack funding and on top of that 0% know-how of such enormous project, even if the project was started two years ago but by given our financial condition it will be end up like circular railway of Karachi.
Re: I want to appreciate Shahbaz Sharif - (Metro Bus)
some poor people i know save upto 50 rupees every single day just because of metro. they earn hardly 6-8k a month. its like 10-15% saving of their salary every single month. not a small thing for someone like that. can amount to quarter or more of monthly grocery of small houses
comfort and saving of time is extra.
there may be quality issues for sure, as completing this huge project in such a small period asks for compromises, it may be geared towards political point scoring, but at the end, return/benefit of this project is enormous.
more cities getting similar service and lahore getting a couple of more routs of it, will be great

oh boy.....
seems like we have another Nuclear weapon at our hands.
In a sense that technically we have achieved nothing, like zero, but nuclear weapon gives us illusion that we have done some thing scientific.
Now we have motor way and metro on our hands to deal with.
We have done nothing in real sense for people but now we have this token project get people high.
Its really surprising how well perpetrator now their prey. But then that is beauty of the jungle.

I do give him the implementation of the motorway, but what achievement is getting some imported buses and then giving them to some drivers out of the millions of available illiterate labor force in Pakistan? Have they started getting fares from people or is it still subsidized, even if not outright free like initially, for the public?

CTBT confuse the bum that exploded with eating sari pai with nahari and dahi bhalay as dessert with Pakistan's nuclear program. That is only how i can explain CTBT's "contributions" to the pakistani nuclear program! ;)

I dont think anyone disagrees with the fact that the metrobus is a good project. The issue is with prioritization. Plus the fact that it was rushed through in 11 months not because of efficiency, but because of political point scoring. And that has resulted in shoddy construction, 'benefits' of which we have already started to see. Such wastage is evident all over Lahore. Underpasses built without proper feasibility are breaking up even before full scale monsoons.
I will praise SS if/when I see even 10% of the 10 million school age kids go to school and get a chance to build their lives.
Re: I want to appreciate Shahbaz Sharif - (Metro Bus)
People often question why those opposing projects like metro do so. Its very difficult to convey why something like metrobus should be secondary when it comes to setting priorities.
Rauf Klasra was on a talk show today, with some startling details about Punjab CMs use of discretionary funds over the past 5 years. An endangered hawk was purchased for 1 million rupees to be gifted to the UAE president. (The law was changed by SS to make it legal!). Crores of rupees were spent on overseas medical bills for a variety of people. The list was pretty long with millions spent......but the punch line was pretty sad. A blind childrens school in Dera Ismail Khan with 700 students was shut down because according to the education secretary, they could not afford to pay 150,000 in salary to the school's 7 teachers.
yeah....metrobus zindabad!
