What does this mean, actually? Before I had some early incarnation of Android, now I have 4.0.4…Before I had gingerbread, now I have…what? Ice cream sandwich? I’m not sure and it doesn’t say if it is Ice where it used to say gingerbread. Where do I look? Who comes up with these names anyway? Do they starve these people in Andromeda or Samsung, so that they obsess on sweets?
Re: I upgraded my "firmware"...
Gingerbread = Android 2.3
Icecream Sandwich = Android 4.0
Jelly Bean A = Android 4.1
Jelly Bean B = Android 4.2 (not out yet on most phones)
You check what you have by going to Settings / About Phone
Google comes up with these names
I'm sure you will name your kids whatever you want, so shush

Did you get it on your note?
Want some key lime pie? :D
Re: I upgraded my "firmware"...
Yes, this is on my Note. You download Kies onto your laptop/computer and on your Samsung phone, then you connect them with a USB cable and it will walk you through it. (Most things you can do via Kies, you can do over wifi, but not upgrading the phone firmware.) I tried to do this a month ago and it wouldn't go through -- it would get to a certain point in installing the firmware, and then it would just hang there for a VERY long time. But I just yesterday updated the Kies on my laptop, and that seems to have done the trick. It installed the upgrade on the phone fairly quickly and with no hangups.
Key Lime Pie?? I bet this all started with geeks showing each other a new version they'd devised and the other geek says, "Dude! Sweet!" ;)

so still no OTA upgrade for Note. :-(
How are you liking your Note after the upgrade? Any changes in the way things work?
Re: I upgraded my "firmware"...
google names them after sweet stuff, you forget their whole business is logging every bit of your private life and exploiting it with the "free" troja..i mean OS they give you. =]
so still no OTA upgrade for Note. ![]()

Oh, come on – it’s not such a big deal to plug it in for half an hour, now is it? Just the firmware you have to do this for. I suppose it makes for a surer data transfer. Better that than hiccups in the OS.
It seems to work mostly the same. That’s a good thing. Some of the menus are different, but no doubt I’ll get used to it quick enough. We always do, don’t we? I spent a bit of time putting my home pages and applications in order, and I updated every one. I should watch a YouTube on the differences so I’ll know what I can/can’t do now.
Re: I upgraded my “firmware”…
I have 4.1.1 ![]()
That point one makes it even more special. Yes yes I know u prolly have the 4.5 that isn’t even out yet
.
Anyway, no Aurchaepiyo, you don’t have Jelly Bean for your Note 2? Why o why? It will change your life! Maybe I should start a new thread on one of it’s coolest features…Google Now.
Re: I upgraded my "firmware"...
I don't have Note 2 -- I have the Original Note. The Authentic Note. (The $50 Note ;)).
Sheesh -- I just got Ice Cream Sandwich and you want me to run and upgrade to Jelly Bean?? You want me to become diabetic here in my burhapa, kya??
I will study what people say about Google Now and Jelly Bean in your new thread, but I don't even do Facebook. I don't get the Google + circles, I don't want to broadcast my whereabouts to all and sundry and my life is not so busy that I don't know where I am supposed to be at any given hour. Maybe that is my problem. I want my Note ("It's not just a phone") to do what I need it to. And I just don't NEED all that stuff. I don't think.
But then, a year ago, I didn't need a camera in my phone or a phone that I could read War and Peace on or keep my little cash spending ledger on or shoot and watch videos or record my gas mileage or access GS...
So who knows?
Re: I upgraded my "firmware"...
^^ Ditch the fear my sweet friend. No one knows where I am unless I want them to. My philosophy is that if you could use technology to enhance your life, then do.

Its not but to my surprise it came with 4.0 so I m good to go for now till I decide to upgrade it to a JB ROM.
And all for $50! Is that a deal, or what? ![]()
I recommend Perfect Keyboard if you want a nice big clear keyboard.
