I/T industry and job creation..disconnect

http://encarta.msn.com/encnet/departments/elearning/?article=7fastestgrowing

the above article goes in detail to note how many new jobs will be created in the I/T sector over the next 10 years and thus how fast of a growing field that is. I am just surprised that they do not factor in how many of these jobs are moving offshore. So while the jobs are being created, they are not always being created here.

Do articlesd like these guve false hope to people since the article fails to factor in the net impact.

This article is more of an advertizement for Kaplan certification programs.

The boom is coming in the US. Don’t listen to Fraudiya scaremongering.

The Coming Job Boom
Forget those grim unemployment numbers. Demographic forces are about to put a squeeze on the labor supply that will make it feel like 1999 all over again.
By Paul Kaihla, September 2003 Issue

Judy Reed is a buyer in a buyer’s market, and frankly, that has its advantages. The vice president for human resources at Stratus Technologies, a Maynard, Mass., maker of high-reliability servers, Reed never lacks for attention at parties and dinners in this employment-starved economy. When she does post a job, she gets four times the volume of responses she got three years ago, and some job seekers even follow up with Christmas cards. If she wanted to, she could fill every opening at a salary 15 percent below the going rate – as, in fact, many of her competitors do.

Matsui

the boom may be coming, i dont argue with that, the jobs may be coming, but not all jobs created will be based in US, even if they are servign US economy. the jobs that will be based here will be of a different nature .. i.e. the people who took 2 classes in web development or network mgmt should not think that the boom will make life for quasi-techies like the way it was in late 90s'

Matsui as far as overall job growth, I was reading a book titlee "impending crises- too many jobs- too few people" which predicts a worker shortage of over 10 million by 2010.

Yaar you take my joking too seriously. I just did a faisal special cut and paste job. I read that article on a flight and remembered it, that's all. As long as I have a job, you all can go to hell for all I care. :p

hey as long as u have a job and promise to hook up those of us in need, when in need, everyone can go to hell :P

I just wanted to make sure our techie brothers have a clear pic of opportunities ahead as well as what they may need to do to take advantage of those opportunities.

Gentlemen ...
Yes, there is going to be growth .. but not a boom .. .... I'm finding lot of companies right now are hiring techies to fix what was done offshore OR document what is going to be done offshore.

US Companies not only save payroll $$ by sending jobs to offshore but they also have tax benefits. The do not need to pay uncle sam in payroll matching taxes. Corporate greed is driving this trend. I am hoping that companies will learn in few years that offshore cost them more over the long run than doing development inhouse.

I'll be happy when I have a job and I will kooh u up also, if I can :)
