Almost everytime a recent acquaintance comes online, he goes to me, “Munni, I need you to entertain me, I am bored.” At first I told him that I am not there for entertainment. Then I started thinking about the statement he made.
Do you think that when we are bored, and we seek to speak to someone, that we are seeking for them to entertain us? Like when you have nothing to do on a Friday night and you go out to a comedy club to have someone entertain you. Is this a lessor version of that? Are other people a distraction, is that what it is? If it is, and you are asking to be entertained, is that using a person? When is it using another person? If it is using someone, is it a bad thing? I’m not only considering boredom, but when lets say you seek advice, etc.
I think, I will never say anything like that to anyone. Cuz firstly, I dont get bored easily. I mostly can find something to do, cuz my interests are reall in great variety. But if a friend is bored and want to talk to another friend, I think there is nothing wrong with it. And seeking someone's advice is not just, nothing wrong but its a good thing.
If your friends always look farword to you, to get rid of his/her boredom, I think you should take it as a compliment. Cuz that friend of your finds you an interesting person thats why he/she thinks that you can entertain them.
But when we speak to someone are we looking for entertainment? Not atall in my case. Cuz, I speak to those who I enjoy speaking with, there are few ppl for them I even leave something thats very interesting to me. Just to have a chat with them. I would be playing a game and if someone special comes online, I would leave the game.
two days earlier, I saw a poem in the poetry forum, and wanted to write few verces of my own in the same rhyme and thythem. I started that, but then someone stared asking questions on msn, so I left that poem of mine un completed just to chat with that person.
I think yes we are using a friend but that not bad, thats what friends are for.
I think you got my point. Or do you think I am babbling agian. ?
Anyway I am just talking for myself and not for all. As a matter of fact, I cant speak for others, so lets see what others have to say about it. :)
Anyways Munni, ive been guilty of saying that a few times. But i say it to those who i know are interesting people and will help me get out of the bored state i am in (phew! long sentence)
No its not a derogatory remark when it comes from me. Its a compliment rather, like mamba said.

That was a bit harsh, wasn't it? I too tend to use the ol "I'm bored, entertain me" line a lot with my friends on MSN, but never mean to demean them in any way... I just use it as an ice-breaker.

if u ever said that to me id tell u exactly wht i thought of the line(not tht ur on my list) i think its a real stupid ice braking line,i mean my first reaction would be exactly the same as munni...i mean do i look like a clown to u?hehe. actually the stupid phrase doesnt even sound nice, it sounds like * oh hi,theres no1 better than u online,i thought id unblock you & see if u could entertain me,im a bit bored mate*
maddy, actually I misled everyone to believe that person was a friend. It was an acquaintance. And I didnt say it in seriousness, I said it with a grin. Mei itni buri nahin houn. hehe.
But I did think to myself that this guy doesnt even know me and here he is asking to be entertained. A few times is fine, but not EVERYTIME you see me online, and I dont even know you that well. hai nah? grin
Friends hai toh theek hai. I dun mind entertaining my friends either.
I really dont know how to answer the question I myself asked. hehe
ask him to get himself a monkey and give it a banana everytime he is bored and wants entertainment. if monkey mind that, this guy will have the time of his life at the handz of the monkey :~)
now thts different…the selection of words is different. mad say the words out aloud,u’l hear the difference…& if its a real tight friend then maybe ud say the phrase otherwise … does all this have anything to do with me being a virgo?
“I’m bored so I phoned you” directly implies “I’m bored so entertain me”.
I rest my case.
PS: How on earth could being a virgo have anything to do with anything? The positions of clumps of gas & rock millions of miles away can in no way influence a person.
