I want to wear a gajra (hair accessory made of fresh jasmine flowers) for my mehndi. I’ve seen them worn in films and think they look really pretty but I haven’t any idea where I can purchase them, either fresh ones or fake ones…can anyone please help??
I would also appreciate any pics you can find of women wearing gajras…many thanks

I'm guessing you're in the US or somewhere where they don't have them readily available, like in Pakistan. What you're going to have to do is find Jasmine plant. Go to a local plant nursery/garden shop or those big home improvement stores like Home Depot, etc. (as long as they have a garden center) and ask for it. It's not easy to find it. I was trying to make them for my wrists to wear at my nikkah. I went to all those stores but they don't always have them in stock. You just have to keep trying (unless the store people know exactly when they will get it).
The other problem is there are so many types and varieties of it. Some have a lot of flowers and some have a few. Some have large flowers and some have small flowers. Often times, the Jasmine plants you find in the stores (at least in the US) are not the ideal kind for making gajras because each plant only has a few flowers on it, probably not enough to make a gajra. You will probably have to buy multiple plants unless u can find the right variety of the plant that has many flowers on it.
Once you have the flowers, it's really not that hard to make it. You just thread a needle and string the flowers through. You can make sort of a loop and tie the 2 ends together. So the tricky part is actually finding Jasmine ( assuming you're not in Pakistan or some other place where you can easily buy it off the street).

If you are looking for Motia then look for 'Maid of Orleans' plant. Artificial gajras can be found at shops that carry worship items for Hindus.

Why dont you just get a good florist to make you some Hawaiian Leis. You can specify the flowers. They look so pretty and we used them at a cousins wedding.

I'm in UK guys and the area I live in doesnt have many Hindus so there are no shops here that sell stuff like gajras. I'm gonna check out jasmine plants and see if I can do it myself but I'm so not creative like that... I've even considered contacting a Hindu temple to see if they'll be able to help - im desperate!!

No i'm from the UK 2...U need to try the asian shops, u'll definately get some from there, a family friend just got married and she had the one's u put round the wrists. So i'd suggest u try the asian shops in green streets, southall, birmingham or bradford.
