^ They contains all the vitamins the plants, trees contain which are destroyed by them. I remember a term 'Tiidi Dal' used in Naseem Hijazi's novels for big armies (bade lashkar). I remember watching reports on PTV showing attack of these grasshoppers / crickets (Tiddis) on crop fields in Miththi (Tharparkar).

KKF, I have watched some Indian Ads where they call cockroaches ‘Laal Baig’.

oh achchhaa…maiN ne to ba-har Haal ‘laal baig’ kaa lafz kabhii nahiiN sunaa aur isii liye maiN ne is laRii ke zarii’ye poochhnaa chaahaa aur yeh lafz merii vocabulary meN izaafa huaa thankoo

A <Tiddee = locust> is very much close to a cricket (Jheenghar) and it is not only eaten in some regions of Indo-Pak but also the Middle East people eat locusts.

In Pakistan people of Thar uses Tiddee as a delicacy.

i remember, when a swarm of locusts would attack our fields, villagers would try to catch them by throwing nets over them and afterwards they would roast them and eat…i was/am always repulsed by the idea of eating bugs.

Jheengar and Lalbaig are entirely different insects. Lalbaig are cockroaches and Jhinger are Cricket. Cricket makes voices by rubbing his legs… and Cockroaches has no voice… atleast me ne nahin suni
