This is what I would suggest. Approach your manager and discuss the eagerness of your new co-worker, and tell your manager that you want to coach this new employee and can you be his designated mentor. That way not only you would have an official assignment so you wont feel like you are taking time away from your other work, but because you are the official mentor, every thing that he would show off to his superiors, would be credited towards you by your bosses as they would know that you are his source of all the learning. That will actually not only look good in your resume, but also in your annual Performance Evaluation.

That is a brilliant Idea TLK, I ll def look into arranging something of that nature. Since I am technically his main point of contact, I ll be sure to try to be extra helpful in front of my boss if he is around so my boss can see I am very helpful. I know I sound sneaky or chalak but man if you want to survive in the corporate world that is the way to go.
