I just mentioned that I used my phone (no SIM) in Istanbul. With the GPS on. I was getting about 2 days of battery life. I had my hotel and other points mapped out before I'd leave the hotel wifi, with offline maps enabled.
I'm actually on the other side, i want my phone to do everything, repeat - everything. :)

mm.. i'm assuming you used the phone by bringing up maps whenever you needed to know where you are, and didn't leave the mapping app running all the time as you walk around (as one would do with a hiking gps :p ). coz if you did the latter, there is no phone that can have its battery stay alive for more than 3-4 hrs of the gps chip being powered on.

What are you saying queer. When we go geo-caching we have our GPS on all the time. When I have Google Latitude turned on its on the whole day, with the data radio on and everything. it lasts the whole day, well, till early evening atleast (5-6 pm). While on my travels there wasn't any GSM/CDMA radios on so it would last a lot longer.
