not if you turn the gps chip on, man. those things suck your battery dry in a couple of hours. plus have you tried turning your phone on in an airplane and making it track location? iphones by definition won’t run gps services in airplane mode. androids probably do.. but yup, battery will be done in no time.
you can pretty much get maps for any place you want and load them into a garmin or tomtom. i’m a fan of robust unitaskers when it comes to scenarios where failing isnt an option.
