I love my enemies...

I am a methodist Christian, and I found out that the good Lord teaches us to love our enemies. I love my enemies, that doesn’t meen I like them…but hate can’t fight hate. I wouldn’t bring myself down to their level. Love conscends hate. But I don’t like what he does, like Jesus said…hate the sin…not the person. War is not the answer, only love can conquer hate. I’d cry for them. I’d weep for my poor brother or sister. In the end who’ll prove to be the better person? If there was more loving going on, the earth would be a better place. God loves us ALL. thats just my opinion.

I understand its 4823478712587123-7834-7235870 billion times harder for a person to love one’s enemies if they have experianced a life changing evil directly. But still, live the change you want to see in the world.

People that kill their enemies are becoming what they seek to destroy. Like in the story (not Disney) Beauty and the Beast the slayer of the beast became the beast at the end. God said, “Love thy neighbor as thyself.”

what do people of other faiths think?

Re: I love my enemies...

not only christianity teaches to love enemies , Islam also teaches the same lesson to everyone..

Re: I love my enemies...

Welcome to GS peep :)

I am sure it is some allegorical statement, that requires proper interpretation.
Forget about faith or religion, for a while - Common sense would say that ENEMIES are not to be loved.

Excercise extreme caution with them, take all defensive measures, but in no way am I going to LOVE them.

The debate would perhaps take into consideration the proper definition of ENEMY. Someone who doesnt follow your school of thought or your way of life isn't exactly an ENEMY... as long as he doesnt cross a certain boundries...

Re: I love my enemies...

It's a nice thought but in the current world affairs if you will try to apply this you won't live to see the next day. "Love thy neighbor" is an excellent concept as long as your neighbor also lives by the same rule. I am not trying to justify voilence. I dislike all kind of extremisms.

Re: I love my enemies...

Hi

I have a question. If you do not like a person how are you going to express your love for the person? Give an example please.

Re: I love my enemies...

** Al Quran 41:*34
*

**The good deed and the evil deed are not alike. Repel the evil deed with one which is better, then lo! he, between whom and thee there was enmity (will become) as though he was a bosom friend.

Re: I love my enemies...

Islam is the religion of peace.

Subhan Allah.

Re: I love my enemies…

Don’t lie!

Lot refuses to give up his angels to the perverted mob, offering his two “virgin daughters” instead. He tells the bunch of angel rapers to “do unto them [his daughters] as is good in your eyes.” This is the same man that is called “just” and “righteous” in 2 Peter 2:7-8. 19:7-8

Sarai tells Abraham to “cast out this bondwoman and her son.” God commands him to “hearken unto her voice.” So Abraham abandons Hagar and Ishmael, casting them out into the wilderness to die. 21:10-14

Dinah, the daughter of Jacob, is “defiled” by a man who seems to love her dearly. Her brothers trick all of the men of the town and kill them (after first having them all circumcised), and then take their wives and children captive. 34:1-31

Moses murders an Egyptian after making sure that no one is looking. 2:11-12

God will kill the Egyptian children to show that he puts “a difference between the Egyptians and Israel.” 11:7

Joshua, with God’s approval, kills the Amalekites “with the edge of the sword.” 17:13

A child who hits or curses his parents must be executed. 21:15, 17

An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. 21:24-25

you make God angry enough, he will kill you and your family with his own sword. 22:24

Re: I love my enemies…

I believe you are quoting from the old testament. The topic is from new testament.

Re: I love my enemies...

Ideally....you should love your enemy...turn the other cheek...blah blah...but in reality I would be interested in knowing how you practice it Peep..Very difficult I must imagine. Of course the essence of loving your neighbour as thyself...is you must learn to love yourself first!
I try not to hate as well...not becos of religious instructions...simply becos while you are out hating someone...he's out there having a great time...maybe even unaware of your feelings towards him...After all hate consume you like no other emotion...But soooo difficult to practise. Imagine someone commits a violent robbery towards your family (God Forbid) How would you not hate him? Would you really forgive him?

I like moderation in everything .... perhaps I am an ""Extreme Moderate"" LOL
