I love Jhoomar!

Re: jhoomer with hairstyle ..don't wanna tie my hair

sabeen86, will you go to a MUA for hair and makeup? It would be easier for them to tell you about the look.

Hey!

i'll definitely go to Nabila for hair, but makeup myself- but you think they should have extensions inhouse? or should i buy some and take there...

i think ill print out aish and the other pic i posted above i like - and take it there... but i am really thinking of extensions now :S and fake eyelashes ;)

Re: jhoomer with hairstyle ..don't wanna tie my hair

You better ring up and ask first. They might have a brand recommendation.

i crimped my hair and wore one, a lot of people took to it; some my aunties were like beta it should be right by your eye and i was like no way i’m not a bride just wanted something nice in my hair. my cousin rabia’s mom is the one that picked it up for me in pakistan and thought i was the oddest person for asking for one. lol thanks if you are reading this.

i think wearing it in the traditional part of the hair makes it look too bridal for girls that plan on wearing it as a guest to a wedding. but if you are the bride then i agree it should be worn with tikka and in place.

Re: jhoomer with hairstyle ..don't wanna tie my hair

^ Oh yeah, I agree. I just meant that it needs to be pinned properly to accent the shape of the face, rather than just dangling loose. With or without the teeka, bride or not, it needs to be worn properly if it is to retain its elegance.

Re: I love Jhoomar!

i am going to merge this jhoomar thread with the other one that's currently active.

There was an issue of National Geographic back in the 1980's with Tahira Syed on the cover...she was playing the sitar dressed in a lavender peshwaz, with a beautiful jhumar (without a maangteeka). I wish I had the picture...I'll look around online and see if I can find it.

That was easier than I thought it would be. I wonder if that’s the same jhumar her daughter wore at her wedding.

Re: I love Jhoomar!

janab, i happen to have this issue!! found it at a half price bookstore..and saved it for the sole reason----the jhoomer design--- :)
her daughter wore a different one..

Re: I love Jhoomar!

^ stunning find guys! our heritage is so beautiful!

is it right to say jhoomer is more a mughal (muslim) thing and the tikka a more rajput (hindu) thing?
