i lost hubbys cheque he got from work. they sent him a cheque because he closed his account. so anyway as hes not here i was meant to look after it. and now i cant find it anywhere…what shall i do..im forgettin things nowadyas…
im sure the work can send another one, seeing as this one wasnt cashed in…right? it coudlve got lost in post?
BUT ive told hubby that i had it..so what excuse now…

Call the human resources office work at his work, have them cancel the check before someone cashes it out and they can issue you a new one. I really don't think it's that big of a deal...I have lost couple of checks here and there, and they usually just reissue them.
And I think instead of making an excuse, you should just tell your husband that you lost it.
p.s edit...maybe your husband found it and already deposited it, you should definitely ask him.

immediately inform ur husband so that he can issue "stop payment instruction " to his banker by mentioning check no.
secondly u have not mentioned that whether the check was bearer or cross. if the check was cross and payee account only u dont need to worry about. as nobody cud get it encashed.
if the check is simply cross still there is less danger of encashment. however if the cheeck is bearer then it is a matter of concern. so inform ur husband asap.
