I know i am INFLATING .. helpppppp!!!!!!!

Okay i have already posted on GS due to my weight many a times already. I am sooo sick and tired of my weight now & even more tired of my habit of thinking every time to try this routine, exercise or diet and i ALWAYS end up compromising to my loveee for foods. **I am 25 years old, 5 feet 3 inches & my weight is 66.5 kgs. **

Since i have a job of sitting on computer for 10-11 hours i dont get time for anything much. I have many a times started things ive heard here and there

  • Tried following the Cabbage Soup Diet, on the 4th day i left it jut could not go on with it more
  • Tried leaving lunch, just having dinner & breakfast. Again couldnt continue even for 3-4 days
  • Tried drinking luke warm water every morning
  • Have tried hoola hooping (about 7 rounds) 4-5 times a day
  • Have tried cycling on the stationery cycle for 15-20 minutes, could not continue any longer
  • Tried yoga for 15-20 minutes every day for 2 weeks continuous, felt a change too but then again lost the consistency
  • Other things

I have jubk food like burgers, pizzas like once in 2 weeks. I do have roti or Chawal for Lunch & dinner, i have to have solid food for lunch or dinner else i feel dizzy.

I really need your help. I can take out 30-45 minutes each day. What should i do?? I really want to lose but i lose my determination soon & i fall for my love of food. HELP!

Re: I know i am INFLATING .. helpppppp!!!!!!!

My mom was always in a similar situation. Then she tried weight watchers and lost about 65 pounds. She's gone up and down since then but never put it all back on - she will go up 10 or 20 pounds then go back to ww and lose it again. But she kept most of the weight off entirely. WW helps you change how you eat and how you live your life - eating healthier but not starving yourself and not completely denying yourself your special treats. But in moderation. Those special diets never work for very long. When you approach it as a change of lifestyle, one that you can adapt to permanently, you will find easier success.

Best of luck to you!

Re: I know i am INFLATING .. helpppppp!!!!!!!

skip the burgers and pizzas and other junky food entirely.
lower your portion size. eat 3 times, but eat less. so if you eat 1 whole roti, go with 3/4 or 1/2
between meals, eat yogurt or fill your tummy with water. keep a giant bottle of water with your always. also go with juices...not the kiddy version, but the adult version with less sugars added to them.
go up the elevator instead of the stairs. start with 1 flight, and work your way from there.

Thanks Mamaof3,
As per what i know the weightwatcher online or their etool etc. require a membership fee which is Rs. 6000+ and i am not too inclined to pay this much for it. Is there no free online setup of theirs? Also, what exactly do they do to help lose?

Ive tried skipping the burgers & pizzas too. Its not a regular thing. I have noticed that when i try to control myself & force not to eat i in fact end up eating more. As for water bottle, definitely a suggestion i will take up! Also, i always climb the stairs i.e. minimum 4 times some 15 stairs everyday. I never opt for the elevator.

Re: I know i am INFLATING .. helpppppp!!!!!!!

i agree with the water suggestion completely! i carry around a big bottle of water with me wherever i go, and this has actually kept me from drinking sodas/teas/fruit juices.

find something you sincerely enjoy doing when you're exercising. i like biking or the elliptical because i can read while i'm doing it. another friend likes to run. and another friend likes playing wii fit or dance dance revolution (and yes, she has lost weight!). the more you enjoy doing something, the more likely you are to keep it up. good luck :)

I find that soups really keep me full, I have a bowl of oats with skimmed milk and dried apricots and 7 raw almonds. If I have soup before a meal I'm hardly hungry..

I also have yoghurt and cucumber around lunchtime followed by a whole-wheat sandwich.

Add lots of grilled vegetables and stir-fry's to u're diet and reduce u're salt intake. U can grill fish or chicken and have that for dinner.

Re: I know i am INFLATING .. helpppppp!!!!!!!

DD, once you join, you will get to their site which will evaluate you and give you your ideal body weight. You will be given a number of "points" to eat during your day. And a really complete listing of how many points each food is worth. You can eat pretty much whatever you want but you need to stick to that number of points in a day. And you are strongly encouraged to avail yourself of the "free" and very inexpensive points of the veggies and fruits. There are recipes, suggestions for best things to eat that both taste good and are low in calories, suggestions on what to to for snacking desires. It seems expensive but in the end for my mom at least, it turned out to be much less expensive than fad diets.

Re: I know i am INFLATING .. helpppppp!!!!!!!

i also have the same problem. can't stick to one thing to lose weight could somebody also help me. i am desperate now nothing looks good on me or fits.

also what is the difference between a cross trainer and a elliptical and what parts of the body do they work.

My simple advise is really what you have probably heard and read a thousand times, its really about changing your eating habits, and don't expect dramatic weight loss straight away.

Take a good look at what you eat, what time you eat, and re adjust your eating habits.

you will forever be in this cycle of frustration at your weight if you don't change.

Re: I know i am INFLATING .. helpppppp!!!!!!!

try low carbs diet!!!!! it is working for me :)

This is 100% true. Its about lifestyle change and not diet x, y or z and gradual weight loss.

Women down regulate their metabolism much more than men when they starve, please don't do it you will gain more weight once you stop whatever diet you were on. Key is to eat smaller more frequents meals (so 4 instead of 3).

Eat your burger or pizza once every two weeks but eat a smaller portion since your urge will be satisfied but you didn't fill your self you too much. I love sweets but eating smaller portions and satisfying myself is much better than restricting for a month or so and then indulging in them too much after.

PS when you eat healthy you can eat a LOT more.

Sorry but this is not a good idea, say no to a low carb diet but i'm not suggesting high carb either. The nervous system requires carbs as energy, according to scientific data we should have at least 100g of carbs in our diet everyday! This is not a lot though, I think a slice of bread is 35g. So really depends on what you mean by low carb, just be careful to add carbs to your diet and not be on a completely carb free diet.

Thanks Mama,
I do have a few more concerns.

  • Are they able to manage it according to our diets, i mean we desis have different items like roti, chawal, keema, gobi aloo etc. How are they able to map the points to our desi food intake?
  • Is their no possibility for a free trial or something, i dont want to risk my money just for something that may not be effective later on. If there is some free or low fees method just as a trial that you may know about
  • How much did your mother lose? Was it only food that she controlled or exercising as well?
  • In the end will it just be my total weight that is reduced? Or the method will actually help reduce my waist, my thighs, my arms and esp my hips too? I mean my waist is 30+ and hips are around a 40.

How do you follow it? What is included and what isnt?

My BMI is 25.9 that is 0.9 over the maximum level for me. For a few days a low carb would not be too harmful would it?

Re: I know i am INFLATING .. helpppppp!!!

I have heard and read that eliminating all carbs (even fruits and certain vegetables) for at least a few days does make you lose weight (and flatten the tummy) but thats only water weight…not a good lifestyle diet.

I"ve never gone more than 3 quarters of a day doing that, so i have no idae if it’s true :hehe:

You can loose weight without going on a low carb diet though plus like is said 100g is not a lot with your fruits and vegetables also giving you carbs. Like sara516 said you will loose water weight that's going to come right back.

What happens when you are on a low carb diet is that you burn off all the carb stores then some fat but ALSO muscle mass.

I just remembered for those of us who are not athletes and highly trained it is best to exercise at a moderate pace and not very intense since you will burn of more fat at moderate than at high intensity. There are a few reasons for that which i don't want to get into.

So I suggest you eat healthy small portions and snack with helathy foods such as yogurt, fruit, nuts etc. Overall eat more proteins (desi diets are low) adequate/moderate crabs (desi diets are very high) and low in fat. Along with moderate intensity exercise.

I agree with others here that it's a lifestyle change that's necessary.

Look, there are tons of diets out there..Atkins, South Beach, Weight Watchers, etc. But it's difficult to do any of these things for the REST OF YOUR LIFE. Even WW, sensible though it is...I know friends who've done it who've simply gotten tired of counting points after months and months of doing it successfully.

So perhaps you may want to consider something like this to kick-start your efforts, but for me and a lot of others, the thing that was most effective was making small changes a step at a time. Are you having 3 spoons of sugar in your tea? Bring it down to two. Four glasses of fruit juice or soda in a day? Try replacing at least two of those glasses with water. Instead of finding the parking space closest to the store/work/subway station, park as far away as possible and walk to your destination. Take the stairs at work instead of the elevator. And so on.

It doesn't sound like a lot. But if you make a few small changes, you will notice that it is gradually making a big difference. And then you'll be motivated to do more, like perhaps working in a regular exercise routine instead of just relying on the stair climbing at work. That's what happened for me. I've successfully kept 10 pounds off because of little changes (doesn't sound like much but on my small frame, even one pound is a huge thing). The last pesky 6 lbs have a habit of coming and going, but that's due to my own laziness. If I would just get off my duff a bit more, it wouldn't be a problem.

So the point of all that rambling is that you don't have to do anything drastic or something that forces you to give up the foods you enjoy. A bit of moderation and some physical activity can really do wonders.
