Cricketplaya, with all due respect...I completely disagree with your outlook. Muslims have a direct responsibility to represent the faith as a peaceful, tolerant and accepting religion from Allah swt. Everything from the way we eat to the way we treat people is a representation of Islam.
Allah swt does not forbid us to greet a fellow non-Muslim does He?

Just because I will reply with "happy holidays" or just smile back when someone says merry christmas, does not mean I am intolerant. Sorry if I have offended you. I take it you misunderstood my post again. I read my post 3 times and I see nothing in my post that goes against what you jsut posted...
u can change the way ppl look at u by being a good person, treating them well, following the rules, being helpful, etc etc etc but not in cheering them for the shirk they do....
No one is cheering them on for shirk they do! Do you live in a non-Muslim country? Its simply wishing Happy Holidays, Happy Friday, Happy Valentine's Day, Happy Birthday, Happy Who The Hell Cares?
Lets stop being so uptight about this. If you cant so much as wish someone well on their holiday, how the heck are you going to go out of your way to treat people well? Im sorry, I dont see it happening anytime soon.
^ the holidays have a meaning, they have a hostory behind them....
u can live in ignorance and be happy.... but Allah isn't pleased with this celebration of the birth of God and u wishing them a happy time celebrating this isnt going to please Him....
either u please Allah or u please the non-muslims....
The Holy Prophet (saw) never greeted non-muslims on their festivals and yet they were influenced by his good treatment and embraced Islam....
and Islamic history is full of non-muslims entering Islam owing to the good treatment of the salaf al-saleheen - but yet none of them greeted them on these occasions....
if good treatment to u means just sharing their happiness in shirk, then sorry to say but thats not the Islam that has been prevalent from 1400 years....
I wonder about those who are so opposed to Christmas....really the only difference between Isaam and Christianity is that Muslims do not beleive the Son of God part about the nativity story. But they DO beleive that Jesus was a blessed Prophet. So this one difference makes it become a rather heated point of contention about whether to join in christmas festivities.
No one will force you to join in the festivities - if you're against it, thats fine. But if you live in a Western country, theres no way to avoid it. Its just too huge here. So join in or not...but if you live here you should accept the whole thing with a gracious smile...and if you find yourself so inclined, well join in and share the joy of the season because you'll be welcome.
But really, Pakistani Muslims celebrate the birthday of a mere mortal - Jinnah - on Christmas day. Does this mean that a politician is more entitled to his own holiday than a blessed prophet of Islaam?
^ muslims r not even supposed to celebrate the birthday of the greatest messengers, i.e. Muhammad (saw)....
but the point here is not the celebration of any man, it is the day to mark the celebration of the birth of Son of God....
even christians believe in the messengers before Jesus (as), why do u not celebrate their birthdays????
simple - u dont believe them to be sons of God....
and that is the only difference - we dont beleive that God has a son....
and we, as muslims, cannot be sharing anyone who wishes to celebrate in such belief....
when the Prophet Muhammad (saw) came to Madina he found the jews fasting on one particular day... when he enquired they said that this is the day that God saved Moses (as) from the Pharoah... the Prophet (saw) said that we muslims r closer to Moses (as) than u, and from next year we shall fast not just one day but 2 days....
this is when u celebrate an even related to a messenger - we have no problem - but celebrating the son of God - that is an unforgivable sin according to Quran, and do u think we shud be celebrating or congratulating christians for such a sin????

Again, it sounds like you've never stepped into another country to realize what Im saying. In that sense, this discussion might be a bit unfair to you.
I hate to say this but this is the type of thinking that has us labeled as intolerant. Its a NATIONAL HOLIDAY! It has more to do with culture now than religion. You would have no problem accepting a greeting from them, would you? Next time, if a non-Muslim says Eid Mubarak, tell them to their face: "you're non-Muslim, I cannot accept a greeting from you! La Hawl Wa La Quwwat!" and run for your life! But you have an issue simply saying "Have a fun holiday, be safe!". Nothing like that exists in your book for fellow human beings? Manners dont exist in your version of Islam? Im sorry, you wont be able to do much for people who are trying so hard to make us look the opposite of what media has us portrayed as.
If you dont live in a non-Muslim country, this is not something you would understand or could relate to...its very easy to live in a Muslim country and condemn other Muslims for things you dont have to worry about.
chrsitmas is nothing more than eid milad ul nabi except this time the nabi is isa and not mohammed. lets just call is eid milad ul maseesh and be done with it.
^ muslims r not even supposed to celebrate the birthday of the greatest messengers, i.e. Muhammad (saw)....
so then the issue of religion is out, muslims dont observe the bith of the prophet muhammad as a religious event, but as a culturla/historical event, since it has nothing to do with religion observing the birthdays of other messengers becomes a non issue from a religious perspective as well.
