you are actually wondering why and why now? that should be pretty obvious. after the embarrassing pimp slap that was the davis release, this is a toothless attempt to project some sense of sovereignty, primarily playing to the domestic audience. also an attempt to reinforce the military’s credibility amongst the rabidly anti-american populace.
