Most checkpoints will simply ask for ID and have troopers glare at you, but they dont normally make you get out of the car. Expect the usual, where you going? How many of you are there? any weapons? Typical checkpoint stuff they dont frisk you unless your either very hot or very suspicous

Green zone, foriegners and anyone with cash can walk about relatively safely lots of open space, plenty of security.

Red Zones, basically cramped streets or places where foreigners are not welcome high risk of danger from anything between rocks being dropped from upper storeys to AK’s blasting you out of every other building…

what kind of ID? does the NICOP card work or do I have to carry my passport?
