I havent been to pakistan in abt 9 years...

for one reason or another. But I am totally looking fwd to going to ISB in August. For the residents of the city have there been any significant changes? and are there any places/spot that I must visit. Thanks.

Re: I havent been to pakistan in abt 9 years…

:fatee: yes, musharraf is gone and even a bigger daakoo lives there now

Re: I havent been to pakistan in abt 9 years...

I haven't been to Pakistan for a decade or so !

Re: I havent been to pakistan in abt 9 years...

i have never been to ISB for more than 2/3 hours.

Re: I havent been to pakistan in abt 9 years…

omg…9 years and u r still alive

i would have died.

Re: I havent been to pakistan in abt 9 years...

Same here... 9 years is a long time. Judging by the sheer number of building projects I dont want to say too much but you will be shocked when you see your surroundings now... literally the hills have been flattenned to make new schemes... I should know my Uncle was doing the flattening years ago. If you pass by Scheme one you will be welcomed by the rest of the Faris home tribe. :)

Re: I havent been to pakistan in abt 9 years...

^ that's no good. The beauty of ISB was in the lush green Margalla Hills. Well flights have been booked so I will have to see it for myself!

Re: I havent been to pakistan in abt 9 years…

well it depends what kinda memories you have of isloo 9 years ago.
state em and then we can help you further to what (disaster:fatee:) to look forward to.

Re: I havent been to pakistan in abt 9 years...

^haha, well too many memories to state. I grew up in ISB and only left to US for college.

Re: I havent been to pakistan in abt 9 years...

1) Its not the 10 years ago Islamabad, it's not a subburb anymore it's an actually a world class city with all the amenities you can ask for.

2) You will counter increase security with security posts on nearly every KM + strictly divide of Green/Red zones.

3) A lot of foreigners can be seen in shopping areas, restaurants & on roads. Watch out there are many likes of Raymond Davis's ......

What else?

Re: I havent been to pakistan in abt 9 years...

I really like Islamabad, because of the Margalla Hills trails primarily. Trail 3 is of course amazing.

If you're coming after 9 years - you'll be lost - the new roads and highways were confusing to me after I hadn't been there in three years.

I don't know if this is true - but some guy asked a US? diplomat - what he thought of Islamabad?

Answer: It is great - it only 5 minutes from Pakistan :D

yes Islamabad is a bubble - completely different from the rest of the country.

Re: I havent been to pakistan in abt 9 years...

I thought you were living in Karachi. You even blogged it.

Re: I havent been to pakistan in abt 9 years...

You should expect:

1- Getting lost because of all the new highways and flyovers all over the city

2- Irritated because of hundreds of security checkpoints at every nook and corner of the city

3- No more green belts or green areas in abundance.

4- Awesome new places to visit and eat out at.

Hope you have loads of fun!

Re: I havent been to pakistan in abt 9 years…

Re: I havent been to pakistan in abt 9 years...

True, 99.9% in UK. :D

Re: I havent been to pakistan in abt 9 years...

2) Whats the experience at a security post? Do they just ask for your ID or give you airport security treatment?

3) What's a Green or Red zone?

Re: I havent been to pakistan in abt 9 years...

Most checkpoints will simply ask for ID and have troopers glare at you, but they dont normally make you get out of the car. Expect the usual, where you going? How many of you are there? any weapons? Typical checkpoint stuff they dont frisk you unless your either very hot or very suspicous ;)

Green zone, foriegners and anyone with cash can walk about relatively safely lots of open space, plenty of security.

Red Zones, basically cramped streets or places where foreigners are not welcome high risk of danger from anything between rocks being dropped from upper storeys to AK's blasting you out of every other building...
