It sounds kind of unrealistic but after the nikkah they say that you should perform the the husband wife duty. And if IT is not performed then when Valima is celebrated, the food is haraam.
I did not like the sound of that, is it true or false?

There are millions of muslim
couples who get the "Nikah" ceremony
done but postpone the "rukhsati"
for later.
And valima usually takes place
after the actual wedding reception.
So then the husband and wife are told islamically to
keep at distance from each other
even after the "nikah" unless "rukhsati"
takes place.

This is not totally false. BTW why does it sound bad to you. This is the most natural desire and outcome of a perfect marriage, be it religious, ethical, philosophical or humanistic way.

yes islam does say to start ur
sexual relations right after u get married.
But if “rukhsati” has not taken
place, islam forbids
to get into anything sexual.
And either way the concept of
the valima food being haram,
doesn’t seem right.
Then again i am not the religion
expert here, so what do i know!

Rukhsati has nothing to do with Islam, and is merely a cultural tradition. After the Nikah has been performed the couple is considered to be husband/wife, and the intimate relations between them are therefore made lawful. Nikah is the only instition which is accepted by Islam. Engagement, mangni, rukshati are all strictly cultural phenomenon.
Valima is not affected in any manner, if the marriage hasn’t been consummated.
